The B.C. Lions signed defensive back Robert Carter Jr. on Tuesday.
Robert Carter Jr. is five foot ten and weighs 175 pounds. The 23-year-old from Danville, Virginia, signed with the Indianapolis Colts on January 8, 2026. In 2026, he made 13 tackles (12 solos, 1 assist), one sack, and one pass breakup in three preseason games, earning a spot on the practice squad. The Colts released him on September 15, 2026.
The B.C. Lions signed Carter Jr. on May 7, 2025. In 2025, he made 51 tackles, five interceptions, one touchdown, and one forced fumble in 18 games. In the Grey Cup playoffs, he made six tackles and one tackle for loss. Carter Jr. made a highlight leaping one-handed interception against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on July 27, 2025. Carter earned the team nomination for CFL Most Outstanding Rookie. The Lions released him on January 7, 2026.
Collegiately, Carter Jr. played two seasons at the University of Virginia College at Wise (2021-22) with 74 tackles (52 solos, 22 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions for 75 yards, one touchdown, 17 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, 31 kick returns for 660 yards, one touchdown, and 16 punt returns for 82 yards in 21 games for the Cavaliers. He was named an All-American Honorable Mention by Don Hansen in 2022.
Then, he transferred to Robert Morris University (2023-24) with 42 tackles (30 solos, 12 assists), five tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions for 81 yards, one touchdown, 11 pass breakups, one blocked kick, two catches for 12 yards, 10 kick returns for 295 yards, and one touchdown in six games for the Colonials.
