The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (59-62, 24-22) took on the Buffalo Bisons (60-62, 25-22) in game two on Wednesday afternoon at Sahlen Field. Drake Fellows was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Josh Stephan of Buffalo.
The game was scoreless in the first two innings. At the top of the third inning, Lehigh Valley had runners on the corners with one out when designated hitter Tommy Pham hit a two-run RBI double to center field, scoring Steward Berroa and Robert Moore to put the IronPigs up 2-0. Lehigh Valley would get two more runners on base with two outs when Keaton Anthony grounded into a forceout at second base to end the inning.
Lehigh Valley starter Drake Fellows pitched a good game, going five innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and one strikeout, throwing 79 pitches, of which 49 were strikes. Tucker Davidson pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the sixth inning. He allowed a hit, throwing 12 pitches, of which 11 were strikes, to get three outs.
Michael Mercado pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning. He gave up back-to-back singles to Ismael Munguia and William Simoneit before Carlos Mendoza moved the runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt to Mercado. Yohendrick Piñango hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Munguia, and it was now 2-1. A flyout by Josh Kasevich ended the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mercado loaded the bases before he was replaced by Kirby Snead. Snead came in and struck out the side. Mercado allowed two hits, one run, and three walks, throwing 35 pitches, of which 19 were strikes. Snead struck out three, throwing 16 pitches, of which 10 were strikes.
Grant Holman pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the ninth inning. Holman threw eight pitches, of which six were strikes, to get the final three outs of the game. The IronPigs beat the Bisons 2-1. Lehigh Valley finished the afternoon with seven hits, committed one error, went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position, and left nine men on base.
Tommy Pham went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. The win went to Lehigh Valley starter Drake Fellows (5-2), while Grant Holman earned his second save of the season, and the loss went to Buffalo starter Josh Stephan (0-2).
The IronPigs and Bisons play game two on Thursday at 6:35 pm on the MLB App and Bally Sports Live. Casey Lawrence (6-7, 4.37 ERA) will be on the mound for Lehigh Valley against John Klein (2-4, 5.86 ERA) of Buffalo.
