On Saturday, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport class raced on the streets in Detroit, Michigan, in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. The No. 95 Turner Motorsport of Cameron Lawrence and Robert Megennis won the pole in the GS class while starting second was the No. 28 Porsche 718 of Stevan McAleer and Eric Filgueiras.
The highlight of the race came with an hour left when the No. 95 BMW driven by Robert Megennis and the No. 19 Aston Martin of Rory Van Der Steur got together at the hairpin of turn three when Megennis tried to pass Van Der Steur from the inside but instead went on top of Van Der Steur’s and onto the tire wall before getting himself out. Both cars suffered major damage and were out of the race.
Upfront, the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG of Daniel Morad won their first race of the season over the No. 28 Porsche of Stevan McAleer.
The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge heads to Watkins Glen International on Saturday, June 24th, at 3:40 pm on Peacock.
