The Edmonton Elks extended the contract of Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Ed Hervey on Friday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“When Ed Hervey returned to Edmonton, he took on an incredibly challenging assignment,” Elks President and CEO Chris Morris said. “This is an organization with a proud history and exceptionally high expectations, but one that had experienced years of frustration and some of the lowest points in its history. In just two short years, Ed has assembled and led an outstanding group of people who have fundamentally transformed the culture of our football operations and restored a standard of excellence that our organization and our community expect and deserve.

What Ed has accomplished goes well beyond wins and losses. He has helped rebuild the foundation of this football club, creating a culture of accountability, commitment, and shared purpose. Most importantly, he has helped make the Edmonton Elks an organization that our community can once again embrace, believe in, and be proud of.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Ed leading our football operations, and I am excited about what we will continue to build together in the years ahead.”

Ed Hervey is 53 years old and from Houston, Texas. In 2026, Edmonton went on to win the Western Division for the first time since 2015 with a 13-5 record. Edmonton’s offense averaged 28.9 points per game, 396.3 yards per game, 285.9 passing yards per game, 127.6 rushing yards per game, 51 touchdowns, and allowed 34 sacks.

In six seasons across two stints, Hervey has a 60-48 record, including an impressive 49-23 mark in the years following his first season overhauling the roster.

“I sincerely thank the Thompson family and Chris Morris for believing in me and for their continued support,” Hervey said. “I am grateful for this opportunity and humbled by the responsibility of leading our Football Operations Department. We have a clear vision for the future, and I remain committed to working tirelessly with our staff and our players to build a championship-calibre team and a culture of sustained success for the Edmonton Elks. Our fans deserve a winner, and we will continue to do everything in our power to bring a championship back to Edmonton.”

As a player, Hervey played eight seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos with 476 catches for 6,715 yards, 43 touchdowns, 3 carries for 17 yards, 1 pass for 52 yards, 2 missed field goal returns for 87 yards, and 24 tackles (12 solo, 12 assists) in 117 games.

He won two Grey Cup titles as a player, a two-time CFL West All-Star (2001, 2003), and a two-time CFL All-Star (2001, 2003). Hervey is one of a handful of players to win both a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl. Hervey won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 1996.

After his playing career ended, Hervey was a West Coast Scout and Head scout for the Edmonton Eskimos for six years. In 2013, Hervey was the General Manager of the Edmonton Eskimos for three seasons (2013-16) and led Edmonton to three consecutive division finals after going 4-14 in his first season, and the Eskimos won the 2015 Grey Cup. After losing back-to-back final appearances, Hervey was fired after the 2017 season.

In 2018, Hervey was named the General Manager of the B.C. Lions. He spent two seasons (2018-19). During his time in B.C., the Lions went 16-20, and he resigned.

In 2021, he joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as an Assistant General Manager and Senior Advisor to the President of Football Operations. Hervey spent four seasons in Hamilton. The Ticats went 31-37, appearing in the 2021 Grey Cup but lost back-to-back Eastern Semi-Final games to the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes. The Tiger-Cats finished 7-11, missing the playoffs.

Hervey returned to the Edmonton Elks on November 19, 2024, when he was named the Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager. In 2025, the Elks went 7-11 for the season. Edmonton’s offense averaged 21.9 points per game, 314.7 yards per game, 244 passing yards per game, 98.1 rushing yards per game, 40 touchdowns, and allowed 52 sacks.
