The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive backs Jy Gilmore and Lemondre Joe to the practice squad on Tuesday.
Jy Gilmore is five foot nine and weighs 190 pounds. A native of Citra, Florida, Gilmore spent four seasons at Tennessee Tech University (2020-23) with 118 tackles (69 solos, 49 assists), three tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, seven kick returns for 118 yards, 20 punt returns for 101 yards, and one touchdown in 30 games for the Golden Eagles. He was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team in the 2020-21 season.
Next, he transferred to Georgia State University in 2024 with 53 tackles (24 solos, 29 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions, three pass breakups, and three punt returns for 12 yards in 12 games for the Panthers. Then, he transferred to Georgia Tech in 2025 with 35 tackles (21 solos, 14 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and three pass breakups in nine games for the Yellow Jackets. He was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after recording 11 tackles (5 solos, 6 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and two pass breakups against Duke.
Lemondre Joe is five foot ten and weighs 180 pounds. The 23-year-old from Deltona, Florida, attended a rookie minicamp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2026.
Collegiately, Joe spent four seasons at Missouri State University (2021-24) with 90 tackles (70 solos, 20 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 58 yards, one touchdown, and 23 pass breakups in 35 games for the Bears. Then, he transferred to Colorado State University in 2025 with 56 tackles (33 solos, 23 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 13 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 12 games for the Rams.
In a corresponding move, the Roughriders released quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger and running back Star Thomas.
Eddie Lee Marburger is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mission, Texas, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 20, 2026, and was placed on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Marburger spent four seasons at the University of Texas at San Antonio (2021-24), completing 65 of 120 passes (54.2%) for 777 yards, seven touchdowns, four interceptions, 26 carries for 40 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 18 games for the Roadrunners.
Then, he transferred to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2025, where he was named the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Texas Non-FBS Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Texas after finishing the season completing 199 of 305 passes (65%) for 2,780 yards, 31 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 79 carries for 308 yards, and four rushing touchdowns in 12 games for the Vaqueros.
Star Thomas is six foot and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Homer, Louisiana, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 24, 2026. In 2026, he had nine carries for 36 yards and three catches for 25 yards in one game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Collegiately, Thomas began his collegiate career at Coffeyville Community College (2020-21) in Kansas with 160 carries for 970 yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, eight catches for 36 yards, and two kick returns for 32 yards in 14 games for the Red Ravens.
In a game against Butler Community College, he had 20 carries for 227 yards and two rushing touchdowns, including an 82-yard run. Thomas was named First Team All-KJCCC in 2021.
Next, he transferred to New Mexico State University (2022-23) with 220 carries for 1,173 yards, nine rushing touchdowns, 34 catches for 351 yards, five touchdowns, three kick returns for 47 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 28 games for the Aggies.
In 2023, he was named Second Team All-Conference USA after finishing the season with 112 carries for 653 yards, four rushing touchdowns, 22 catches for 200 yards, two touchdowns, and three kick returns for 47 yards in 15 games.
Then, Thomas transferred to Duke University in 2024 with 213 carries for 871 yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 20 catches for 153 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Blue Devils.
Thomas concluded his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee in 2025 with 104 carries for 596 yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 11 catches for 116 yards, and two touchdowns in 13 games for the Volunteers. Thomas averaged 5.7 carries per game, 45.8 yards per game, 10.5 catches per game, and 8.9 receiving yards per game.
