The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed linebacker Vi James to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Vi Jones is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. The 28-year-old from Austin, Texas, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on January 28, 2026. In 2026, he made two tackles, two tackles on special teams, and one interception in two preseason games. The Roughriders released him on May 30, 2026.

The Seattle Seahawks signed Jones as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2022. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Arizona Cardinals. Jones made nine tackles (5 solos, 4 assists) and two forced fumbles in seven games with the Buccaneers. He played a total of 10 regular-season games in the NFL.

The Arizona Cardinals acquired him via waivers on December 30, 2024. In 2025, he made 10 tackles (6 solos, 4 assists) and one pass breakup in three preseason games. The Cardinals released him on August 25, 2025.

Collegiately, Jones spent two seasons at USC (2017-18) with 28 tackles (19 solos, 9 assists), three tackles for loss, and three pass breakups in 22 games for the Trojans. Then, he transferred to North Carolina State University (2019-21) with 80 tackles (41 solos, 39 assists), 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and two punt returns for 22 yards in 24 games for the Wolfpack.

Jones was the Co-recipient of the team’s Bo Rein Award for vital contribution in an unsung role. He was also one of the co-recipients of the team’s Special Teams Player of the Year honor in 2020.

Vi Jones is the son of former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Robert Jones, who was named the NFC Rookie of the Year in 1992 and won three Super Bowls. He also played for the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, and the Washington Redskins.
