The Saskatchewan Roughriders released offensive lineman D’Mitri Emmanuel, linebacker Osasere Odemwingie, and defensive back Carson Sombach on Friday, according to the CFL Transactions page. Odemwingie and Sombach were placed on the retired list as they are returning to school. The Roughriders retain their rights when they decide to return to the CFL.
D’Mitri Emmanuel is six foot two and weighs 309 pounds. The 27-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on May 3, 2024. He was placed on the league suspension list on May 15, 2024. Emmanuel never played a game for Saskatchewan.
Collegiately, Emmanuel played three seasons at Charlotte (2019-21), playing left guard, left tackle, and right tackle in 25 games for the 49ers. In addition, he played right tackle in Charlotte’s first-ever bowl appearance at the 2019 Bahamas Bowl.
In 2019, Emmanuel was named Third Team All-C-USA by Phil Steele after Charlotte’s offense led C-USA and ranked 30th in the country in rushing offense (school-record 203.0 yds/gm), allowed just 1.62 sacks per game, tied for the 32nd-fewest in the country, scored on 88.4 percent of red zone possessions to tie for 35th in the nation, ranked 25th with a time of possession average of 31.59 per game, opened holes for first team all-C-USA RB Benny LeMay, who boasted a school-record seven 100-yard rushing games, ranked second in C-USA and 24th in the nation with a 98.4 rushing average and led C-USA with 120.4 all-purpose yards.
Then, Emmanuel transferred to Florida State (2022-23), playing left guard and right guard in 27 games for the Seminoles, and was named First Team All-ACC in 2023. In 2023, Florida State’s offense piled up 554 yards and averaged 8.3 yards per rush, totaling 306 yards on 37 carries vs. the Eagles and posting FSU’s highest single-game point total vs. an FBS opponent since 2013.
The Seminoles lead the ACC in scoring offense, total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, yards per completion, fewest interceptions thrown, and fewest turnovers, along with protecting ACC Player of the Year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year Jordan Travis, who led the ACC in passing efficiency, yards per pass attempt, and fewest interceptions while breaking FSU records for career total offense and career touchdowns.
Osasere Odemwingie is six foot and weighs 220 pounds. The 21-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the fourth round (38th pick) of the 2026 CFL Draft. In 2026, Odemwingie made one tackle on special teams in two preseason games.
Collegiately, Odemwingie spent four seasons at the University of Calgary (2022-25) with 216 tackles (109 solos, 107 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 31 games for the Dinos. In 2024, he had a career-high 73 tackles (34 solos, 39 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in eight games.
Carson Sombach is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. The 24-year-old from Regina, Saskatchewan, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on May 4, 2026. In 2026, Sombach made two tackles on special teams in two preseason games.
Collegiately, Sombach spent six seasons at the University of Regina (2019-25) with 120 tackles (70 solos, 50 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 161 yards, two touchdowns, 13 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 36 games for the Rams.
In 2025, he was named Second Team U Sports All-Canadian and Canada West All-Star after finishing the season with a career-high 41 tackles (22 solos, 19 assists), half a tackle for loss, two interceptions for 115 yards, one interception, and 10 pass breakups in 10 games. He attended the East-West Bowl in May of 2025. He was named a two-time Academic All-Canadian.
