The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (37-35, 5-2) took on the Delmarva Shorebirds (26-47, 2-5) in game four on Friday night at Segra Stadium. The Woodpeckers were known as the Fayetteville Generals, which played from 1987 to 1996. Javier Perez was on the mound for Fayetteville against Andrew Herbert of Delmarva.

In the bottom of the first inning, Fayetteville had a runner on first base when first baseman Arturo Flores hit a two-run home run to left field to put the Woodpeckers up 2-0. It was his 11th home run of the season. With two outs, a flyout by Waner Luciano ended the inning.

At the top of the second inning, Delmarva catcher Miguel Rodríguez hit a solo home run to left-center field, cutting Fayetteville’s lead to 2-1. With two outs, Javier Perez struck out Andrés Nolaya to end the inning.

Moving to the top of the sixth inning, rain began to fall at Segra Stadium, sending the game into a delay. Fayetteville starter Javier Perez pitched five innings, allowing three hits, one run, and seven strikeouts, throwing 67 pitches, of which 47 were strikes.

The game was set to resume, but upon inspection of the field, the umpires determined that the field could not be played, and the game was called. The Woodpeckers defeated the Shorebirds 2-1. With the win, the Woodpeckers win the series with two games left to play.

Fayetteville finished the night with four hits, went 0 for 1 with runners in scoring position, and left three men on base. Arturo Flores went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs. The win went to Fayetteville starter Javier Perez (5-3), and the loss went to Delmarva starter Andrew Herbert (2-2). Fayetteville has yet to name a starter, while Brayan Orrantia (0-4, 4.88 ERA) will be on the mound for Delmarva.
