The Orlando Storm (7-2) hosted the D.C. Defenders (5-4) on Friday night from Inter&Co Stadium. D.C. Defenders started Spencer Sanders at quarterback after Jordan Ta’amu was ruled out for the season with a right knee injury.

On the opening kickoff, Orlando returner K.J. Hamler lost the ball after Kai Gray forced it out. Luckily, Orlando recovered it on the 23-yard line. The Storm moved the ball to the 38-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Jack Plummer threw a short pass to Chris Rowland, who ran by two D.C. players and had a guy beside him to make a block on his way to scoring a 62-yard touchdown. The Storm took a 7-0 lead to conclude a six-play drive for 77 yards.

D.C. had the ball on the 29-yard line. On the first play, running back Deon Jackson followed his right guard for a gain of 28 yards to the 43-yard line. The Defenders moved the ball on the 25-yard line. Kicker Matt McCrane made a 43-yard field goal. The Defenders trailed the Storm 7-3 to conclude an eight-play drive for 46 yards.

Orlando moved the ball to the 46-yard line before failing to convert a fourth-down play. Late in the second quarter, D.C. moved the ball to the three-yard line. D.C. running back Deon Jackson rushed for the three-yard touchdown to put the Defenders up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, concluding a four-play drive for 59 yards.

In the second quarter, Orlando quarterback Jack Plummer threw a 41-yard pass to Elijhah Badger. The Storm took a 14-10 to conclude a four-play drive for 60 yards. Later, Jack Plummer threw a 35-yard pass to Cam Camper to the 18-yard line. They moved the ball to the two-yard line, where Plummer threw a touchdown pass to Cam Camper for a 21-10 lead to conclude a six-play drive for 61 yards.

Late in the second quarter, D.C. quarterback Spencer Sanders threw a short pass to Deon Jackson for 21 yards to the 44-yard line. The Defenders moved the ball to the 49-yard line. Kicker Matt McCrane attempted a 67-yard field goal, but he came up short. The Storm led the Defenders 21-10 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the two teams traded field goals. D.C. kicker Matt McCrane made a 56-yard field goal, and Orlando kicker Michael Lantz made a 35-yard field goal. The Storm led the Defenders 24-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, D.C. kicker Matt McCrane made a 28-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 24-16. In their next possession, Orlando moved the ball to the 29-yard line, but kicker Michael Lantz missed a 47-yard field goal.

D.C. running back Abram Smith had three carries for 21 yards, helping the offense move the ball to the 24-yard line. Kicker Matt McCrane made a 42-yard field goal. The Defenders trailed the Storm 24-19.

Late in the game, Orlando put the game away when kicker Michael Lantz made a 51-yard field goal. The Storm defeated the Defenders 27-19 for their third win in a row, while the Defenders have now lost three in a row.

Orlando’s offense had 318 yards (275 passing yards, 52 rushing yards), 16 first downs, 1 for 2 in the redzone, and the team was penalized six times. Quarterback Jack Plummer completed 21 of 27 passes (77.8%) for 275 yards, three touchdowns, and four carries for -4 yards. Running back Jashaun Corbin had 16 carries for 52 yards.

Wide receiver Chris Rowland had eight catches for 117 yards and one touchdown, while Elijhah Badger made five catches for 82 yards and one touchdown, and Cam Camper made three catches for 49 yards and one touchdown. The defense made 56 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

D.C.’s offense had 339 yards (160 passing yards, 202 rushing yards), 16 first downs, 1 for 2 in the redzone, and the team was penalized eight times. Quarterback Spencer Sanders made 10 of 21 passes (47.6%) for 160 yards and eight carries for 75 yards. Running back Deon Jackson had eight carries for 64 yards, one rushing touchdown, and one catch for 32 yards.

Wide receiver Keke Coutee made one catch for 45 yards, while Cornell Powell made four catches for 40 yards. The defense made 52 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and five pass breakups.

The two teams will meet next Sunday in the regular-season finale at 12 pm on ABC.
