Lehigh Valley concludes trip with another shutout loss at Rochester

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (20-25) concluded the six-game series against the Rochester Red Wings (25-20) on Sunday afternoon at ESL Ballpark. Chuck King was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Luis Perales of Rochester.

The game was scoreless for the first three and a half innings until the bottom of the fourth inning. Rochester had a runner on third base with one out when Andrés Chaparro hit a soft RBI single to third base, scoring Dylan Crews for a 1-0 lead. Later, Rochester had runners on the corners with two outs when Andrew Pinckney hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Chapparo for a 2-0 lead. Chuck King struck out Phillip Glasser to end the inning.

Chuck King would pitch four innings, allowing four hits, two runs, and four strikeouts, throwing 59 pitches, of which 39 were strikes. Michael Mercado pitched in the bottom of the fifth inning, striking out one, throwing 11 pitches, of which eight were strikes, to get three outs.

Lou Trivino pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the sixth inning. He allowed one hit and struck out two, throwing 22 pitches, of which 15 were strikes. Jackson Rutledge was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning. He threw 10 pitches, of which six were strikes, to get three outs.

At the top of the eighth inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with one out when Liover Peguero grounded into a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play.

Seth Johnson was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs and a runner on second base, Andrés Chaparro hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Dylan Crews for a 3-0 lead. Johnson struck out Robert Hassell III, and the inning was over. Johnson allowed two hits, a run, and one strikeout, throwing 21 pitches, of which 13 were strikes.

For the second straight game, and the third time in this series, the IronPigs were shut out by the Red Wings 3-0. They lost 5 of 6 to Rochester. Lehigh Valley finished the afternoon with six hits, committed three errors, went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, and left seven men on base.

The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Chuck King (1-3), while the win went to Rochester pitcher Luke Young (1-0), and Erik Tolman earned his second save of the season.

The IronPigs return to Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at 6:05 pm on the MLB App.
