The NTT IndyCar Series made its debut on the streets of Markham, Ontario, for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy. Louis Foster started the race on the pole, with Christian Lundgaard starting second.
Louis Foster led the opening 32 laps. During those 32 laps, two cautions happened. Mick Schumacher hit the wall at Turn 4, and Marcus Armstrong spun at Turn 5. After Foster went to pit road during the caution on lap 33, Nolan Siegel was the new leader. Siegel led eight laps, of which one was under green when Dennis Hauger turned Scott Dixon around right into Christian Rasmussen at Turn 8.
When the race resumed on lap 40, Roman Grosjean passed Siegel for the lead. The race went three laps before Louis Foster, who tried to pass Marcus Ericsson, crashed hard into the wall at Turn 3. Not long after the restart, Kyle Kirkwood made heavy contact with the wall at Turn 3 for the fifth caution of the afternoon.
Grosjean went to pit road before the caution, allowing Marcus Ericsson to take the lead. Shortly after the race restarted, Nolan Siegel spun Josef Newgarden in the hairpin at Turn 5. Marcus Ericsson made his final pit stop on lap 69, with Roman Grosjean taking the lead.
In the closing laps, Marcus Ericsson made contact with Will Power for third place with nine laps to go, and later passed Alex Palou for second place with seven to go. He began closing in on Grosjean. With six laps to go, Ericsson passed Grosjean for the lead and pulled away. He led the final five laps to win his first race of the season by 7.5305 seconds to snap a 63-race winless drought. It is also his fifth career IndyCar win.
Roman Grosjean, Will Power, Alex Palou, and Pato O’Ward rounded out the top five. Christian Lundgaard, Rinus VeeKay, Scott McLaughlin, Graham Rahal, and Santino Ferrucci completed the top ten. Click here to view the full standings.
