The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (17-16) and the Syracuse Mets (18-14) concluded the six-game series on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Alan Rangel was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Daniel Duarte of Syracuse.
In the bottom of the second inning, Syracuse had a runner on second base when Yonny Hernandez hit a fly ball RBI single to second base. Lehigh Valley second baseman Liover Peguero could not locate the ball, and Cristian Pache scored for a 1-0 lead.
Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel pitched five innings, allowing one hit, one run, one walk, and six strikeouts, throwing 79 pitches, of which 50 were strikes.
Tucker Davidson was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the sixth inning. He loaded the bases when Ji Hwan Bae grounded into a double play, scoring Nick Morabito for a 2-0 lead. Syracuse right fielder Cristian Pache hit Davidson’s slider for a two-run home run at 357 feet to right field for a 4-0 lead. It was Pache’s third home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 102.4 mph. A lineout by Yonny Hernandez ended the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Syracuse had a runner on second base with one out when Christian Arroyo hit an RBI single to left field. Nick Morabito scored for a 5-0 lead. Ji Hwan Bae grounded into an inning-ending 1-6-3 double play. Tucker Davidson pitched three innings, allowing four hits, four runs, two walks, and two strikeouts, throwing 48 pitches, of which 27 were strikes.
Lehigh was shut out by the Mets 5-0. They lose the series 5-1. They finished the afternoon with four hits, went 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position, and left eight men on base. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel (2-3), and the win went to Syracuse pitcher Jonathan Pintaro (2-0).
The IronPigs return to Coca-Cola Park to begin a six-game series against the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday at 11 am on the MLB App.
