The Ottawa Redblacks released wide receiver Eugene Lewis and defensive back Shakur Brown on Sunday.
Eugene Lewis is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 33-year-old from Norristown, Pennsylvania, re-signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on January 16, 2026. In 2026, he made 20 catches for 231 yards in seven games.
Lewis attended the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamps in 2017. The Montreal Alouettes signed Lewis on June 12, 2017. Lewis played five seasons in Montreal with 276 catches for 4,347 yards, 28 touchdowns, five carries for nine yards, one touchdown, one kick return for 15 yards, 12 tackles, and one forced fumble in 67 games. Lewis was named a two-time CFL All-Star and a three-time CFL East All-Star.
The Edmonton Elks signed Lewis on February 14, 2023. In 2023, he made 48 catches for 844 yards, three touchdowns, one kick return for no yards, and three tackles in 12 games. In 2024, Lewis made 74 catches for 1,070 yards, 10 touchdowns, one carry for 15 yards, one touchdown, and six tackles in 18 games. Lewis was named a CFL West All-Star.
Lewis signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on February 12, 2025. In 2025, he made 75 catches for 1,012 yards, six touchdowns, five tackles, and one tackle on special teams in 18 games.
Collegiately, Lewis played three seasons at Penn State (2013-15) with 90 catches for 1,181 yards, eight touchdowns, one carry for one yard, 11 kick returns for 491 yards, completing 1 of 2 passes (50%) for 32 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle (1 assist) in 37 games for the Nittany Lions. Then, he transferred to Oklahoma in 2016 with 32 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games for the Sooners.
Shakur Brown is five foot eleven and weighs 190 pounds. The 27-year-old from Stockbridge, Georgia, made 19 tackles in five games for the Redblacks in 2026.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Brown as an undrafted free agent on May 7, 2021. He also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions. On April 22, 2022, Brown signed with the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL) with 36 tackles (23 solos, 13 assists), one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup in nine games.
After Pittsburgh, Brown signed with the Tennessee Titans but was waived from injured reserve. The Arlington Renegades signed Brown as a free agent on May 16, 2023. In 2023, he made 34 tackles (17 solos, 17 assists), one tackle for loss, three pass breakups, and one interception in nine games.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Brown on April 10, 2024. In 2024, he made six tackles in two preseason games. The Ticats released him on June 1, 2024.
Brown signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on April 10, 2025. In 2025, he made three tackles, two tackles on special teams, and three pass breakups in two preseason games.
The Redblacks released him on May 31, 2025. They re-signed him on July 9, 2025. He spent over two weeks on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him again on July 30, 2025. Ottawa re-signed Brown on August 3, 2025.
He spent an additional three days on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him for the third time on August 7, 2025. The Redblacks brought him back on August 13, 2025. In 2025, he made 15 tackles and two tackles on special teams in four games.
Collegiately, Brown played three seasons at Michigan State (2018-20) with 54 tackles (38 solos, 16 assists), two tackles for loss, seven interceptions for 186 yards, one touchdown, and 16 pass breakups in 26 games for the Spartans. He finished his career ranked eighth in MSU history with 186 interception return yards.
