Ottawa Redblacks defensive lineman Nigel Romick announced his retirement on Friday.

Football gave me purpose, discipline, and memories I will carry for life. Nigel Romick is six foot four and weighs 230 pounds. The 35-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ontario, re-signed with the Redblacks on February 18, 2025. In 2025, he made six tackles on special teams in 12 games.
The Ottawa Redblacks drafted Romick in the third round (23rd pick) in the 2014 CFL Draft. In 2023, he made two tackles and six tackles on special teams in 16 games. The Redblacks re-signed Romick on January 11, 2024. In 2024, he made six tackles on special teams in 12 games. He missed most of the season with a hamstring injury.
Romick spent 11 seasons in Ottawa with 17 tackles, 113 tackles on special teams, one sack, and one pass breakup in 130 games. He helped the Redblacks win the 2016 Grey Cup championship over the Calgary Stampeders.
Collegiately, Romick played three seasons at St. Mary’s University (2011-13) with 78 tackles (47 tackles, 31 assists), 11 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and one forced fumble in 24 games for the Huskies.
