The Montreal Alouettes released running back Marcus Williams Jr., wide receivers Malachi Carter and Ferlando Jordan, defensive linemen Trey Botts, Jerron Cage, and Jordan Wright, linebacker Troy Brown, and defensive backs Kordell Rodgers and Dishon McNary. In addition, the Alouettes placed defensive backs Matt Severance and Linden Stephens on the suspended list.
Marcus Williams Jr. is five foot ten and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 12, 2024.
Collegiately, Williams Jr. played four seasons at Appalachian State (2017-20) with 400 carries for 2,216 yards, 14 touchdowns, 13 catches for 123 yards, and one touchdown in 42 games for the Mountaineers. He was named an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention in 2019.
Then, Williams Jr. transferred to Louisiana Tech in 2021 with 194 carries for 787 yards, eight touchdowns, 20 catches for 202 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Bulldogs.
Malachi Carter is six foot two and weighs 191 pounds. The 24-year-old from Lawrenceville, Georgia, made four catches for 43 yards in three preseason games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023. The Bengals signed Carter as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Carter signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 26, 2024.
Collegiately, Carter played five seasons at Georgia Tech (2018-22) making 99 catches for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and two carries for 36 yards in 58 games for the Yellow Jackets.
In his final season, Carter made 23 catches for 342 yards, two touchdowns, and two carries for 36 yards in 11 games. He set a new Georgia Tech record for the most games played at a collegiate level (58) and finished his career ranked 14th in program history for career receiving yards (1,417).
Ferlando Jordan is five foot eleven and weighs 186 pounds. The 23-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, attended the Atlanta Falcons rookie minicamp in 2023. Then, the Pittsburgh Maulers drafted Jordan in the fourth round (25th pick) of the 2023 USFL Draft.
In 2023, Jordan made four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) and one fumble recovery in four games for the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL) in 2023. In the playoffs, Jordan made two tackles (2 solo) in two playoff games. Jordan signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 22, 2024.
Collegiately, Jordan played five seasons at Southeastern Louisiana (2018-22) with 137 tackles (97 solo, 40 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, ten interceptions 335 yards, one touchdown, 38 pass breakups, one forced fumble, three blocked punts, and five kick returns for 69 games for the Lions. He was a two-time First Team All-Southland Conference.
Trey Botts is six foot two and weighs 292 pounds. The 25-year-old from Aurora, Colorado, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. He played three preseason games for the Ravens with seven tackles (4 solo, 3 assists) and one sack.
The Philadelphia Stars drafted Botts in the 8th round (62nd pick) of the 2023 USFL Draft. Botts signed to play for the Stars on November 8, 2023, but the Stars were not included in the USFL and XFL merger forming the United Football League (UFL).
Botts would be drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas (UFL) in the 2024 UFL Super Draft. Botts was released by the Brahmas on March 10, 2024. Then, Botts signed with the Montreal Alouettes on April 3, 2024.
Collegiately, Botts played four seasons at Colorado State-Pueblo (2018-19, 2021-22) with 153 tackles (58 solo, 95 assists), 25.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in 43 games for the Thunderwolves. He is a two-time All-RMAC Honorable Mention team.
Jerron Cage is six foot two and weighs 304 pounds. The 25-year-old from Cincinnati, Ohio, made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in three preseason games for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. The Saints signed Cage as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Then, Cage signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 30, 2024.
Collegiately, Cage played five seasons at Ohio State (2018-22) making 34 tackles (13 solo, 24 assists), eight tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, three fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 30 games for the Buckeyes.
Jordan Wright is six foot five and weighs 233 pounds. The 25-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was drafted by the Arlington Renegades in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft. He was released by the Renegades on March 10, 2024. Then, Wright signed with the Montreal Alouettes on April 19, 2024.
Collegiately, Wright played five seasons at Kentucky (2017-22) with 168 tackles (92 solo, 76 assists), 25 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, 17 pass breakups, two interceptions for 26 yards, and one touchdown in 54 games for the Wildcats.
In his senior season, Wright made 62 tackles (32 solo, 30 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, four pass breakups, and one interception in 12 games.
Troy Brown is six foot one and weighs 220 pounds. The 25-year-old from Flint, Michigan, signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2023. He played one preseason game against the Detroit Lions with one pass breakup. Brown signed with the Montreal Alouettes on February 29, 2024.
Collegiately, Brown played four seasons at Central Michigan (2018-21) making 215 tackles (158 solo, 57 assists), 31.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions for six yards, 17 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 41 games for the Chippewas. He was a three-time First Team All-MAC and won the Herb Deromedi Team MVP in 2019.
Then, he transferred to Ole Miss in 2022 with 93 tackles (44 solo, 49 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 13 games for the Rebels. He was named Third Team All-SEC by Pro Football Focus.
Kordell Rodgers is five foot eleven and weighs 175 pounds. The 25-year-old from Lufkin, Texas, signed with the Montreal Alouettes on May 10, 2023. In 2023, Rodgers made 37 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games for the Alouettes as Montreal went on to win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Collegiately, Rodgers played six seasons at Texas State (2017-22) with 156 tackles (106 solo, 50 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions for 154 touchdowns, two interceptions, 25 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 51 games for the Bobcats.
Dishon McNary is six foot and weighs 196 pounds. The 26-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, attended rookie minicamps with both the Chicago Bears and New York Giants before attending training camp for the Calgary Stampeders in 2023. The Montreal Alouettes signed McNary on September 5, 2023. He made one tackle on special teams in four games for the Alouettes in 2023 when Montreal went on to win the 110th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Collegiately, McNary played two seasons at Independence Community College (2017-18) in Independence, Kansas, with 28 tackles, two sacks, ten pass breakups, and one block on special teams in 13 games for the Pirates.
Then, McNary transferred to Central Michigan (2019-21) with 47 tackles, one interception, ten pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Chippewas. In 2020, he was named first-team All-MAC by Pro Football Focus and Phil Steele’s All-MAC fourth team after making 26 tackles, one interception, six pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in six games.
