Ottawa Redblacks sign defensive backs Bennett Williams and Yusuf Corker

The Ottawa Redblacks signed defensive backs Bennett Williams and Yusuf Corker on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Bennett Williams is six foot and weighs 206 pounds. The 25-year-old from Campbell, California, signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was placed on injured reserve and later released on August 5, 2023.

Collegiately, Williams played two seasons at Illinois (2017-18) with 65 tackles (34 solo, 31 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions for 55 yards, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 12 games for the Fighting Illini.

Next, Williams transferred to the College of San Mateo in 2019 with 46 tackles (26 solo, 20 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three pass breakups in 12 games for the Bulldogs helping them their first State Championship. Williams was named First Team All-Conference.

Then, Williams transferred to Oregon (2020-22) with 108 tackles (73 solo, 35 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, five interceptions for 95 yards, one touchdown, 13 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 25 games for the Ducks. He was named an All-PAC 12 Honorable Mention by the coaches and named Fourth Team All-PAC 12 by Phil Steele in 2022.

Yusuf Corker is six foot and weighs 197 pounds. The 25-year-old from Stockbridge, Georgia, made one tackle (1 solo) in two preseason games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023. The Bengals signed Corker as a free agent on September 1, 2022, and spent the season on the practice squad.

Before Cincinnati, Corker signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. Yorker made eight tackles (5 solo, 3 assists) in three preseason games before he was released on August 29, 2022.

Collegiately, Corker played five seasons at Kentucky (2017-21) with 241 tackles (134 solo, 107 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, one touchdown, 17 pass breakups, three interceptions in 50 games, of which 37 were starts for the Wildcats.
