E.J. Warner’s three touchdowns were not enough in a loss to USF

Temple quarterback E.J. Warner threw three touchdowns against South Florida on Saturday.

The Temple Owls (3-7) visited Raymond James Stadium on Saturday afternoon against the University of South Florida (5-5) in their tenth all-time meeting.

Temple was looking to extend their winning streak on Saturday but that did not happen. The Owls lost to the Bulls 27-23 and with the loss are eliminated from bowl contention.

Temple had 389 yards on offense. Quarterback E.J. Warner completed 24 of 47 passes (51%) for 280 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and three carries for 16 yards. Running back Darvon Hubbard had 8 carries for 48 yards.

Temple wide receivers Dante Wright, Zae Baines, and tight end Jordan Smith combined with 7 catches logging 89 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Temple’s defense made 84 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, six sacks, and one interception.

South Florida had 451 yards on offense. Quarterback Byrum Brown completed 18 of 27 passes (67%) for 316 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, 15 carries for -14 yards, and 1 touchdown. Running back Nay’Quan Wright had 17 carries for 72 yards.

South Florida wide receiver Khafre Brown made 1 catch for 32 yards and 1 touchdown. South Florida’s defense made 61 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 7 pass breakups, three interceptions, and 1 touchdown.
