Memphis Showboats extend winning streak to five games over New Jersey

The Memphis Showboats (5-3) took on the New Jersey Generals (2-6) from Tom Benson’s Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon. Coming into this game, the Showboats won four straight games, while the Generals lost four straight games.

Memphis running back Kerrith Whyte had a big afternoon with 23 carries for 102 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 14 yards as the Showboats defeated the Generals by the final score of 25-16. Memphis quarterback Cole Kelley completed 15 of 24 passes (62.5%) for 176 yards, one interception, and 12 carries for 24 yards.

Memphis tight end Jay Jay Wilson led the receivers with three catches for 43 yards, while wide receiver Vinny Papale finished second with three catches for 36 yards. Kicker Alex Kessman made six field goals with a long of 38 yards and converted one extra point.

Memphis’s defense allowed 246 yards (5.6 YPP), with 51 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

New Jersey quarterback Dakota Prukop completed 14 of 25 passes (56%) for 128 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, and led the rushers with six carries for 76 yards. Backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta completed 2 of 4 passes (50%) for 16 yards, and one interception.

New Jersey running back Darius Victor had nine carries for 26 yards, six catches for 39 yards, and one touchdown. Wide receiver Alonzo Moore had three catches for 36 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Nick Sciba converted one of two field goals with a long of 56 yards and made one extra point. New Jersey’s defense allowed 317 yards (4.5 YPP), with 86 tackles, ten tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
