Hamilton Tiger-Cats signs three players including defensive back Chris Edwards

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made three moves on Friday. First, they signed former Toronto Argonauts defensive back Chris Edwards to a one-year contract through the 2023 season on Friday.

In addition, The Ticats signed former Edmonton Elks wide receiver Chris Osei-Kusi to a one-year contract through the 2023 season and former Clemson defensive lineman Nyles Pinckney.

Chris Edwards, a 30-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, made 37 tackles, two interceptions, two touchdowns, and one forced fumble in 13 games for Toronto in 2022. He played two seasons in Toronto with 75 tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, four touchdowns, and one forced fumble in 27 games.

Collegiately, Edwards played his first two seasons (2011-12) at Grand Rapids Community College before transferring to Butte Community College in 2013.

Then, Edwards transferred to Idaho for his last two seasons (2014-15). Edwards played two seasons with 76 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, six pass blocks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 18 games for the Vandals.

After college, Edwards signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. However, he was released at the end of training camp in 2016. In 2017, Edwards made his to the CFL, signing with the Edmonton Eskimos. He played 17 games with 16 tackles, four special teams tackles, one interception, and one sack.

A year later in Edmonton, Edwards played 18 games with 50 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. In 2019, he signed with the BC Lions, playing 18 games with 50 tackles, one sack, one interception, and two forced fumbles.

In 2020, Edwards took another shot in the NFL, signing with the San Francisco 49ers. He played one preseason game before being released. In June 2021, Edwards returned to the CFL, singing with the Toronto Argonauts. In 67 career games, Edwards has 158 tackles, four sacks, seven interceptions, three touchdowns, and four forced fumbles.

Chris Osei-Kusi, a 25-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, made six catches for 79 yards and six tackles in 17 games for the Edmonton Elks in 2022. The Montreal Alouettes drafted Osei-Kusi in the fourth round (30th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft but returned to the University of Windsor for his final season. The Alouettes released him in 2021.

Osei-Kusi signed with the Elks as a free agent in 2021. He played two seasons with six catches for 79 yards and seven tackles in 22 games.

Collegiately, Osei-Kusi played three seasons at Queen’s University (2015-16) with 126 catches for 1,862 yards, eight touchdowns, 17 carries for 178 yards, one touchdown, 16 kick returns for 365 yards, 15 punt returns for 220 yards, and one touchdown in 28 games for the Gaels.

Then, Osei-Kusi transferred to the University of Windsor in 2019 with 34 catches for 560 yards, two touchdowns, two kick returns for 30 yards, and two punt returns for 38 yards in seven games for the Lancers.

Nyles Pinckney, a 24-year-old from Beaufort, South Carolina, attended rookie minicamp for the New Orleans Saints in 2022. Collegiately, Pinckney played four seasons at Clemson (2017-20) with 98 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 55 games.

Then, Pinckney transferred to Minnesota in 2021 with 29 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 13 games for the Golden Gophers.
