On Friday, the Edmonton Elks signed former Minnesota running back Shannon Brooks and former Penn State defensive back Jordan Lucas to one-year contracts.
Shannon Brooks, a 26-year-old from Austell, Georgia, played for the Arizona Rattlers (IFL) in the 2022 season with 89 carries for 396 yards, 18 touchdowns, 29 catches for 354 yards, and nine touchdowns in 14 games. Before the Rattlers, he was with the Massachusetts Pirates in 2021 but did not see action.
Collegiately, Brooks played five seasons at the University of Minnesota (2015-19) with 431 carries for 2,290 yards, 20 touchdowns, 32 catches for 313 yards, two touchdowns, and 27 kick returns for 503 yards in 38 games.
Jordan Lucas, a 29-year-old from New Rochelle, New York, played one game for the Indianapolis Colts in 2021. The Miami Dolphins drafted Lucas in the sixth round (204th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. Lucas had eight tackles in 19 games with the Dolphins before they traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.
Furthermore, Lucas had 39 tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup in 20 games, including winning Super Bowl LIV in 2020 over the San Francisco 49ers. After the Chiefs, he signed with the Chicago Bears and spent the season on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Lucas played four seasons at Penn State (2012-15) with 158 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles in 46 games.
