The Calgary Stampeders signed former Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Tommy Stevens to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Stevens confirmed the signing on his Twitter account, saying, “Excited to announce that I’ve signed a CFL deal with the Calgary Stampeders.”
The New Orleans Saints drafted Tommy Stevens in the seventh round, 240th pick, in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Stevens switched positions from quarterback to tight end. After the Saints cut him, Stevens signed with the Carolina Panthers. He played one game for the Panthers with four carries for 24 yards against the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers released him in June 2021.
Shortly after the Panthers released him, Stevens signed with the New York Giants on August 4th but was cut six days later.
In college, Stevens played three seasons at Penn State with 24 completions for 304 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, 76 carries for 506 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2018, he missed several games due to injury, including missing the Citrus Bowl in 2019.
After three seasons at Penn State, Stevens transferred to Mississippi State. He played nine games with 97 completions for 1,155 yards, 11 touchdowns, five interceptions, 83 carries for 381 yards, and four touchdowns. A high ankle sprain, followed by a broken rib and punctured lung, forced him to miss the Egg Bowl.
Stevens returned to play Louisville in the Music City Bowl, where he went 17/26 for 221 yards, two touchdowns, 17 carries for 71 yards, and one touchdown.
