IronPigs blown out by RailRiders

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-53) were blown out Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (56-37) 10-3 in front of 5,945 fans.

David Parkinson (1-9, 6.99 ERA) started for Lehigh Valley against Clarke Schmidt (0-0, 2.70 ERA) of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The RailRiders struck first at the top of the second inning with runners on the corners; shortstop Kyle Holder hit a sharp line drive single to right field, putting the RailRiders up 1-0. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, RailRiders second baseman Cristian Perez hit an RBI single to center field, driving in another run 2-0.

Then, RailRiders center fielder Estevan Florial grounded into a forceout to the second baseman while Florial reached first base, and a run scored for a 3-0 lead. Estevan Florial attempted to steal second base before IronPigs catcher Rafael Marchan threw the ball wide left to second baseman Nick Maton, scoring another run as the RailRiders led 4-0.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added another run when right fielder Trey Amburgey hit a sharp line drive to left field, scoring a run for a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, with runners on first and second base, IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall singled to left field, bringing home a run to now trail the RailRiders 5-1.

At the top of the fourth inning, the IronPigs brought in Seranthony Dominguez to pitch. After Dominguez loaded the bases, he was replaced with Brady Lail. Then, RailRiders first baseman Armando Alvarez cleared the bases with a three-run double to left field for an 8-1 lead.

At the top of the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley brought in their fifth pitcher in Enyel De Los Santos. Later, De Los Santos gave up a solo home run to RailRiders shortstop Kyle Holder for a 9-1 lead.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, RailRiders pitcher Nick Nelson walked IronPigs first baseman Darick Hall to force in a run 9-2. Then, a sacrifice fly by IronPigs designated hitter TJ Rivera to right field added another run 9-3.

At the top of the ninth inning, with runners on first and second base, RailRiders left fielder Greg Allen hit an RBI single to right field for a 10-3 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Braden Bristo was the new pitcher for the RailRiders. He got the last three outs of the game, and the IronPigs were blown out by the RailRiders 10-3.

Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Parkinson (1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 SO) suffered his tenth loss of the season. The win went to RailRiders pitcher Adam Warren (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER).

Game three of the six-game series continues today at 7:05 pm. Adam Leverett (1.0, 4.00 ERA) starts for Lehigh Valley against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Matt Krook (2-4, 5.15 ERA).
