Toronto Argonauts sign nine players from the 2024 CFL Draft

The Toronto Argonauts signed wide receiver Kevin Mital, offensive linemen John Bosse and Daniel Shin, defensive linemen Tyson Hergott, Ifenna Onyeka, and Justin Sambu, defensive backs Tyshon Blackburn and Jerrell Cummings, and punter Jeremy Edwards on Monday.

Kevin Mital is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 25-year-old from Saint-Hubert, Quebec, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the first round (5th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Mital started at Syracuse in 2019 as a redshirt freshman. Then, he transferred to the University of Laval (2021-23) making 125 catches for 1,585 yards, 22 touchdowns, eight carries for 96 yards, two touchdowns, and four tackles (3 solo, 1 assist) in 20 games for the Rouge Et Or. He was named Second Team All-Canadian in 2022 and named a three-time RSEQ All-Star.

Mital was named the 57th Vanier Cup game’s Most Valuable Player as the Rouge et Or defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies by a score of 30–24. In addition, Mital won the 2022 U Sports Hec Creighton Award after making 58 catches for 751 yards, 12 touchdowns, four carries for 25 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 8 games.

John Bosse is six foot four and weighs 335 pounds. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Bosse was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the third round (25th pick) of the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Bosse played four seasons at the University of Calgary (2019, 2021-23) playing 29 games for the Dinos making one tackle (1 solo). He was part of the Dinos 2019 Vanier Cup Championship team defeating the University of Montreal.

Daniel Shin is six foot three and weighs weighs 280 pounds. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Shin was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the eighth round (72nd pick) of the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Shin played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2019, 2021-23) playing center in 29 games for the Golden Bears. He was named a two-time Canada West All-Star and a First Team U Sports All-Canadian.

Tyson Hergott is six foot three and weighs 246 pounds. A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Hergott was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the third round (24th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Hergott played three seasons at the University of Waterloo (2019, 2022-23) making 89 tackles (67 solo, 22 assists), 26.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one blocked kick in 23 games for the Warriors.

In 2023, Hergott made 53 tackles (36 solo, 17 assists), 13.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in nine games. He was named First Team U Sports All-Canadian after the season.

Ifenna Onyeka is six foot one and weighs 249 pounds. A native of Brampton, Ontario, Onyeka was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the fifth round (45th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Onyeka played four seasons at Carleton University (2020-23) making 77 tackles (41 solo, 36 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one pass breakup in 22 games for the Ravens.

In 2023, Onyeka made 46 tackles (21 solo, 25 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in eight games.

Justin Sambu is six foot four and weighs 284 pounds. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Sambu was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the sixth round (54th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Sambu played four seasons at the University of Maine (2019-22) making 59 tackles (22 solo, 37 assists), 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 28 games for the Black Bears.

Then, Sambu transferred to Baylor in 2023 making two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 12 games for the Bears. At Clarkson North High School in Calgary, Alberta, Sambu was named Team Canada in 2016. He was rated as the eighth-best player in Canada and the second-best defensive end in the nation in 2016.

Tyshon Blackburn is six foot two and weighs 203 pounds. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Blackburn was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the third round (27th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Blackburn played four seasons at the University of Alberta (2019-23) making 100 tackles (78 solo, 22 assists), one tackle for loss, four interceptions for 61 yards, and 12 pass breakups. In 2023, Blackburn made 25 tackles (17 solo, 8 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception for 13 yards, and three pass breakups. He was named First Team U Sports All-Canadian in 2021.

Jerrell Cummings is five foot eleven and weighs 195 pounds. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the fifth round (39th pick) in the 2024 CFL Draft.

Collegiately, Cummings played three seasons at Simon Fraser University (2019, 2021-22) making 106 tackles (72 solo, 34 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions for four yards, 35 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 28 games for the Red Leafs. He was named a Canada West All-Star. Then, Cummings transferred to the University of British Columbia in 2023 making 22 tackles (15 solo, 7 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss, and one pass breakup in nine games for the Thunderbirds.

Jeremy Edwards is six foot five and weighs 220 pounds. The 24-year-old from Bendigo, Australia, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the first round (7th pick) in the 2024 CFL Global Draft.

Collegiately, Edwards played two seasons at Eastern Kentucky University (2022-23) punting the ball 84 times for 3,301 yards (39.3 AVG) with a long of 61 yards, four touchbacks, 27 fair catches, 29 from inside the 20-yard line, and nine from 50-plus yards in 23 games for the Colonels.
