The Ottawa Redblacks signed defensive linemen Kyron Johnson and C.J. Nunnally IV, and defensive back Sage Ryan to the practice squad on Wednesday.
Kyron Johnson is six foot and weighs 235 pounds. The 28-year-old from Arlington, Texas, was drafted by the D.C. Defenders in the 2026 UFL Draft. Johnson attended training camp, and the team released him on March 19, 2026. The Defenders re-signed him on April 29, 2026. Johnson did not play a game for the Defenders in 2026. The Defenders released him on June 2, 2026.
The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Johnson in the sixth round (181st pick) of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Johnson made eight tackles (6 solos, 2 assists) in 16 games for the Eagles. The Eagles released him on August 29, 2023. He also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans. Johnson made nine tackles (7 solos, 2 assists) in four preseason games.
Collegiately, Johnson played five seasons at Kansas (2017-21) with 191 tackles (126 solos, 65 assists), 22 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and five pass breakups in 57 games, of which 39 were starts for the Jayhawks.
In his senior season, Johnson had 61 tackles (41 solos, 30 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, four sacks, and one pass breakup in 12 games. He was named All-Big 12 Second Team in 2021.
C.J. Nunnally IV is six foot three and weighs 265 pounds. The 23-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2026. They released him on June 17, 2026.
Collegiately, Nunnally IV spent one season at Jackson State University in 2021, appearing in one game for the Tigers. Next, he transferred to Independence Community College in 2022 with 35 tackles (28 solos, 7 assists), seven tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in eight games for the Pirates.
Then, he transferred to the University of Akron (2023-24) with 121 tackles (59 solos, 62 assists), 26.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, two pass breakups, and three forced fumbles in 24 games for the Zips. In 2024, he was named First Team All-MAC after finishing the season with 56 tackles (24 solos, 32 assists), 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, and two forced fumbles in 12 games.
Nunnally IV concluded his collegiate career at Purdue University in 2025 with 44 tackles (30 solos, 14 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 12 games for the Boilermakers.
Sage Ryan is six foot and weighs 200 pounds. The 23-year-old from Lafayette, Louisiana, attended the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp in 2026.
Collegiately, Ryan spent four seasons at Louisiana State University (2021-24) with 113 tackles (65 solos, 48 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, 13 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 43 games for the Tigers. Then, he transferred to Ole Miss in 2025 with 26 tackles (18 solos, 8 assists), half a tackle for loss, half a sack, and four pass breakups in 15 games for the Rebels.
