After rain cancelled Saturday night’s game, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (60-64, 25-24) rounded up a five-game series against the Buffalo Bisons (62-63, 27-23) on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen Field. Alan Rangel was on the mound for the Lehigh Valley against C.J. Van Eyk of Buffalo.
At the top of the first inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded with one out when Kameron Misner grounded into a forceout at second base, scoring Tommy Pham to put the IronPigs up 1-0. Dylan Moore followed up by hitting an RBI double to left field, scoring Rafael Marchan for a 2-0 lead. A groundout by Carter Kieboom ended the inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Buffalo had runners on the corners with one out when Sean Keys grounded out to second base, scoring Josh Kasevich. It was 2-1. A lineout by Yohendrick Piñango ended the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning with two outs, Buffalo catcher C.J. Stubbs put the Bisons up 3-2 when he hit Rangel’s four-seam fastball at 402 feet to center field. It was his eighth home run of the year, and the exit velocity off the bat was 108.1 mph. Rudy Martin Jr. followed up by hitting Rangel’s changeup for a solo home run at 378 feet to center field for a 4-2 lead. It was his third home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 99.8 mph. A flyout by Josh Kasevich ended the inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, Buffalo added another run when Peyton Williams hit a two-out RBI single to center field, scoring Sean Keys for a 5-2 lead. A flyout by Nick Goodwin ended the game.
Moving to the bottom of the fourth inning, Buffalo had the bases loaded with nobody out when Jay Harry hit an RBI single to right field, scoring C.J. Stubbs for a 6-2 lead. Kirby Snead replaced Alan Rangel. Sean Keys hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Rudy Martin Jr. for a 7-2 lead. Yohendrick Piñango followed up by hitting at two-run RBI single to center field, scoring Josh Kasevich and Jay Harry for a 9-2 lead. Afterward, Snead would get a flyout by Lenyn Sosa, struck out Peyton Williams, and a groundout by Nick Goodwin ended the inning.
Alan Rangel went three innings, allowing 10 hits, nine runs, two walks, and one strikeout, throwing 76 pitches, of which 50 were strikes. Snead allowed two hits and struck out one, throwing 19 pitches, of which 12 were strikes.
Tucker Davidson pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Buffalo had runners on first and second base with two outs when Peyton Williams hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Sean Keys for a 10-2 lead. Nick Goodwin grounded into a forceout at second base, and the inning was over. Davidson went two innings, allowing two hits, one run, one walk, and struck out one, throwing 36 pitches, of which 24 were strikes.
Grant Holman pitched for Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the seventh inning. He threw 12 pitches, of which seven were strikes, to get three outs. Kyle Backhus pitched for the IronPigs in the bottom of the eighth inning. He allowed a hit, throwing eight pitches, of which seven were strikes, to get three outs. The IronPigs would lose the finale 10-2. The IronPigs take three of five in Buffalo.
Lehigh Valley finished the afternoon with seven hits, went 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position, and left 12 men on base. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Alan Rangel (3-6), and the win went to Buffalo pitcher Javen Coleman (1-1).
The IronPigs return to Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand against the Syracuse Mets at 6:45 pm on the MLB App and Bally Sports Live.
