The Montreal Alouettes (9-1) hosted the Ottawa Redblacks (0-10) on Thursday night to start Week 12 of the CFL season at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium for their third and final meeting of the regular season.
Ottawa got the ball to start the game on the 40-yard line. Quarterback Jake Maier began the game by throwing a seven-yard pass to Keelen White to the 47-yard line. The offense moved the ball to the one-yard line before Bryson Barnes scored the touchdown. The Redblacks took a 7-0 lead with seven minutes left. The drive went 14 plays for 70 yards, eating almost eight minutes off the clock.
Late in the first quarter, Ottawa moved the ball to the 26-yard line. On the next play, Jake Maier’s pass intended for Ayden Eberhardt was intercepted in the endzone by Nate Beauchemin. Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander threw three passes for 54 yards, rushed for 12 yards, and running back Travis Theis rushed for six yards to the eight-yard line.
Terry Wilson rushed for two yards, plus an offside penalty on Ottawa moved the ball to the four-yard line. Davis Alexander faked a handoff to Travis Theis before throwing a touchdown pass to Tyson Philpot. The Alouettes tied the game 7-7 to end the first quarter on a seven-play drive for 80 yards. Montreal’s offense had 83 yards, and Ottawa’s offense had 92 yards.
In the second quarter, Ottawa moved the ball to the 42-yard line. Two plays later, the Redblacks attempted a field goal, but Noah Gettman could not grip the ball after the snap and fumbled it. It was recovered by Kabion Ento for a 46-yard run to the 12-yard line. Davis Alexander threw two passes for 11 yards before Terry Wilson scored the touchdown for a 14-7 lead with 10:56 left.
Ottawa had the ball on the 10-yard line. Greg Bell had two carries for 12 yards to the 22-yard line. On the next play, Maier attempted to throw the ball to Kalil Pimpleton, but it was picked off by Kabion Ento for a 29-yard pick-six touchdown. It was now 21-7 with 8:49 left. The Alouettes had scored 21 points off turnovers. Kicker Jose Maltos Diaz kicked the ball 92 yards in the endzone, where Kalil Pimpleton conceded the single point, which made it 22-7.
Ottawa quarterback Jake Maier threw two passes for 11 yards to the 51-yard line. Greg Bell rushed for eight yards, Bryson Barnes rushed for 10 yards, and Daniel Adeboboye rushed for six yards to the 35-yard line. Brett Lauther attempted a 43-yard field goal, but he missed it. The Alouettes moved the ball to the 20-yard line before Terry Wilson fumbled the ball, and it was recovered by Ottawa defensive back Alonzo Addae for a 57-yard return to the 28-yard line.
Kicker Brett Lauther made a 36-yard field goal, and Montreal kicker Jose Maltos Diaz made a 33-yard field goal. The Alouettes led the Redblacks 25-10 at halftime.
Montreal’s offense had 185 yards. Davis Alexander went 10 of 12 for 140 yards, one touchdown, and one carry for 12 yards. Running back Travis Theis had five carries for 39 yards and two catches for 24 yards. Wide receiver Cole Spieker made four catches for 89 yards, and Tyson Philpot made two catches for 13 yards and one touchdown.
Ottawa’s offense had 168 yards. Jake Maier went 10 of 19 for 98 yards and two interceptions. Greg Bell had eight carries for 55 yards, while Bryson Barnes had five carries for 12 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver J.J. Hardy made three catches for 44 yards, while Keelan White made four catches for 30 yards.
Montreal started the third quarter with the ball on the 42-yard line. Travis Theis rushed for 10 yards, followed by Davis Alexander throwing two passes for 25 yards to the 33-yard line. Travis Theis picked up three more carries for 19 yards to the 14-yard line. Three plays later, the Alouettes were at the three-yard line when Travis Theis ran in for the touchdown. It was now 32-10 with 9:18 left on a nine-play drive for 68 yards.
The Redblacks had the ball on the 40-yard line. Jake Maier threw four passes for 28 yards plus two penalties by Montreal moved the ball to the one-yard line. On the next play, Bryson Barnes scored the touchdown. They attempted a two-point conversion, but did not get it. The Redblacks trailed the Alouettes 32-16 with 4:25 left on a nine-play drive for 70 yards.
Late in the third quarter, Montreal’s offense moved the ball to the one-yard line before Terry Wilson scored the touchdown for a 39-16 lead with 20 seconds on a seven-play drive for 78 yards. Ottawa had the ball on the 34-yard line. Montreal’s defense blitzed with Geoffrey Cantin-Arku knocking the ball out of Maier’s hand, and he recovered it on the 21-yard line to end the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander led the offense to the five-yard line before throwing a touchdown pass to Tyson Philpot for a 46-16 lead with 12:58 left on a four-play drive for 21 yards.
The Redblacks benched Jake Maier and went with McLeod Bethel-Thompson. The Redblacks moved the ball to the seven-yard line until Thompson’s pass was intercepted by Najee Murray for a three-yard return to the 12-yard line. For the rest of the game, Montreal substituted their starters. Dustin Crum finished the game for the Alouettes.
With under a minute left, Montreal was threatening to add another touchdown, but running back Shomari Lawrence had the ball ripped out by Jesse Evans and recovered by Shadwel Nkuba II at the five-yard line. The Alouettes would go on to blow out the Redblacks 46-16. With their loss, the Ottawa Redblacks tied the second-longest losing streak in CFL history. Their last win was in Week 14 against the B.C. Lions in 2025.
Montreal’s offense had 457 yards (291 passing yards, 175 rushing yards, 9 yards lost), 30 first downs, 5 for 7 in the redzone, and the team was penalized 12 times for 90 yards. Quarterback Davis Alexander completed 20 of 23 passes (87%) for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one carry for 12 yards. Dustin Crum completed 4 of 5 passes (80%) for 31 yards.
Running back Travis Theis had 11 carries for 88 yards, one rushing touchdown, and three catches for 42 yards. Wide receiver Cole Spieker made four catches for 89 yards, while Tyson Philpot made nine catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The defense made 40 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown.
Ottawa’s offense had 252 yards (181 passing yards, 96 rushing yards, 25 yards lost), 22 first downs, 2 for 2 in the redzone, and the team was penalized three times for 29 yards. Quarterback Jake Maier completed 14 of 23 passes (60.8%) for 126 yards and two interceptions, while McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 4 of 9 passes (44%) for 55 yards and one interception.
Running back Greg Bell had eight carries for 55 yards, while Bryson Barnes had eight carries for 20 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Keelen White made six catches for 70 yards, and Justin Hardy made four catches for 52 yards. The defense made 47 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
Next Friday, the Montreal Alouettes visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at 8:30 pm on TSN and CFL+, while the Ottawa Redblacks host the B.C. Lions on Sunday at 7 pm on TSN, CBS Sports Network, and CFL+.
