Shane van Gisbergen completes weekend sweep at Sonoma Raceway

The NASCAR Cup Series visited Sonoma Raceway on Sunday afternoon in the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Ty Gibbs started on the pole, with Carson Hocevar starting second, and Gisbergen started fifth.

Ty Gibbs led the opening 27 laps before losing the lead to Shane van Gisbergen. Gisbergen 25 laps before making a pit stop. Ty Gibbs took the lead and won the first stage. In the second stage, Gisbergen took the lead from Gibbs on lap 57. Late in the second stage, Gisbergen went to pit road, and Ty Gibbs took the lead. Gibbs won the second stage. He led a total of 31 laps.

In the final stage, Josh Berry, Austin Cindric, and Noah Gragson made contact that brought out the only on-race caution on lap 62. Kyle Larson led a couple of laps, while William Byron and Ross Chastain led a lap. Shane van Gisbergen took the lead on lap 88.

Gisbergen led the final 23 laps, holding off Chase Briscoe to complete the weekend sweep at Sonoma Raceway by 0.357 seconds. He led a race-high 74 of 110 laps. Gisbergen won the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at Sonoma on Saturday. It was also his second win of the season.

Ty Gibbs, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five. Ryan Blaney, Connor Zilisch, Ryan Preece, Michael McDowell, and Alex Bowman completed the top ten. Click here to see the full results.

The Cup Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway for the first time since 2019 next Sunday at 6 pm on TNT.
