The NTT IndyCar Series visited Road America on Sunday afternoon for the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Alex Palou started the race on the pole, with David Malukas starting second.

Christian Lundgaard did not get off to a good start on the opening lap when he ran into Scott Dixon’s car, breaking the front wing, and had to make a stop to change it. Alex Palou led the opening 13 laps before the caution came out on lap 14 when Romain Grosjean’s left rear tire came loose at Turn 5 after pitting the lap before. It was one of five cautions throughout the race.

Alex Palou was hit with a speeding penalty, and Felix Rosenqvist was the new leader. Rosenqvist led 16 laps before Christian Ramussen’s car suffered a mechanical failure and came to a complete stop at the start/finish line, bringing out the second caution of the day. Alex Palou served his penalty during the caution.

Rosenqvist led 18 laps before making a pit stop. Marcus Armstrong was the new leader on lap 32. Just as the race went back to the green flag, debris brought out the caution lap 33. Marcus Armstrong led 10 laps before making his final stop of the day. Meanwhile, Christian Lundgaard, who broke his front wing, was passing cars left and right. When Armstrong made a pit stop on lap 42, Lundgaard was the new leader.

Lundgaard led three laps before making his final pit stop of the day, handing the lead to Josef Newgarden. Newgarden led three laps before he made his final stop, and Marcus Armstrong resumed the lead. With seven to go, Lundgaard passed David Malukas for second and started to chase down Armstrong.

With three laps to go, Armstrong’s car started to sputter at Turn 6, leading to Lundgaard to pass him for the lead. Not long after, Armstrong’s car blew an engine, leading to a one-lap restart. On the restart, Lundgaard pulled away from David Malukas. Behind them, Graham Rahal did not see Will Power, and the two made contact, sending Rahal into the gravel trap at Turn 12.

Christian Lundgaard would go on to win his second race of the season by 0.6241 seconds over David Malukas. It was Lundgaard’s third-career IndyCar win. Will Power, Kyffin Simpson, and Alex Palou rounded out the top five. Alexander Rossi, Scott McLaughlin, Felix Rosenqvist, Santino Ferrucci, and Kyle Kirkwood completed the top ten.
