Layne Riggs wins inaugural Navy 250 at Qualcomm Circuit in overtime

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series kicked off the weekend on Friday night at the Qualcomm Circuit on Naval Base Coronado on the 3.4-mile street course in San Diego, California, for the Navy 250. Kayden Honeycutt started the race on the pole, with Layne Riggs starting second.

Kaden Honeycutt led the opening two laps before Layne Riggs took the lead on the third lap. On the fifth lap, Dawson Sutton’s truck stalled, which led to the first caution of the race. It was one of seven cautions throughout the race. Honeycutt and Riggs went back and forth with the lead. Riggs went on to win the first stage.

In the second stage, Jimmie Johnson was the leader. He only led a couple of laps before losing the lead to Chandler Smith. Parker Kligerman and Layne Riggs also led laps in the second stage. Late in the stage, Kligerman had Ty Majeski on his bumper. He was able to hold him off to win the second stage. It was Kligerman’s first stage win of the season.

In the final stage, Kaden Honeycutt was leading the race until he locked the brakes and smacked the tire wall at Turn 2, handing the lead to Chandler Smith. There were four cautions in the final stage, including on lap 48 when Tyler Ankrum hit the wall at Turn 16, causing the race to be red-flagged. The race went to overtime.

In the first overtime, Nathan Nicholson stalled to bring out the caution. In the second overtime, Tyler Reif was leading Layne Riggs. Rief cut the corner and had to come to a stop, handing the lead to Layne Riggs with two turns to go. Riggs went on to win the race by 1.332 seconds over Daniel Hemric. It was his third win of the season, and the ninth of his Truck Series career. Riggs led a race-high 21 of 60 laps. There were 16 lead changes among six drivers.

Kaz Grala, Landen Lewis, and Ty Majeski rounded out the top five. Justin Haley, Brenden Queen, Ben Rhodes, Christian Eckes, and Gio Ruggiero completed the top ten. Click here to see the rest of the results.

The Truck Series will be off for several weeks. Their next race is on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from Lime Rock Park at 1 pm on FS1.
