The B.C. Lions signed defensive lineman Matt Spatny to the practice squad and released defensive lineman Colby Taylor from the practice squad on Monday.
Matt Spatny is six foot two and weighs 250 pounds. A native of Medina, Ohio, Spatny attended the Seattle Seahawks rookie minicamp in 2026.
Collegiately, Spatny spent four seasons at Lehigh University (2022-25) with 111 tackles (62 solos, 49 assists), 34 tackles for loss, 25.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and two fumble recoveries in 43 games for the Mountain Hawks. In 2023, he had a career-high 40 tackles (22 solos, 18 assists), eight tackles for loss, five sacks, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.
In his final two seasons, he was named a two-time First Team All-Patriot League and a two-time All-American Honorable Mention by the Associated Press with 62 tackles (36 solos, 26 assists), 25.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery in 23 games. In 2025, he made 26 tackles (17 solos, 9 assists), 14 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and one fumble recovery in 11 games.
Colby Taylor is six foot three and weighs 260 pounds. The 24-year-old from Summerville, South Carolina, attended rookie minicamps for the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026. The B.C. Lions signed Taylor on May 16, 2026. In 2026, he made three tackles in one preseason game. The Lions placed him on the practice squad.
Collegiately, Taylor spent two seasons at Newberry College (2023-24) with 70 tackles (45 solos, 25 assists), 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 20 games for the Wolves.
In 2024, he was named the Newberry Comeback Player of the Year and was honored with the Newberry Pack Leader Award after finishing the season with a career-high 47 tackles (28 solos, 19 assists), 14.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles in 10 games.
Then he transferred to the University of West Florida in 2025 with eight tackles (4 solos, 4 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Argonauts.
