Tucker Davidson roughed up as Lehigh Valley drops second straight to Rochester

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (27-32) played game two on Wednesday night against the Rochester Red Wings (36-22) from Coca-Cola Park. Tucker Davidson was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Chandler Champlain of Rochester.

At the top of the second Inning, Tucker Davidson got the first two outs before all heck broke loose. He walked Harry Ford and gave up a single to Andrew Pinckney. Tres Barrera followed up by hitting a two-run RBI single to center field, scoring Ford and Pinckney to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead. Rochester second baseman Phillip Glasser followed up by hitting an RBI single to right field, scoring Barrera for a 3-0 lead.

After a mound visit, Davidson made a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, moving Glasser to second base. Davidson walked Christian Franklin before Seaver King hit an RBI double to center field, scoring Glasser for a 4-0 lead. After another mound visit, Rochester first baseman Yohandy Morales hit an RBI single to second baseman Liover Peguero, scoring Franklin for a 5-0 lead. Davidson walked Brady House before striking out Joey Wiemer to finally retire the side.

That was it for Tucker Davidson. He pitched two innings, allowing five hits, five runs, three walks, and four strikeouts, throwing 56 pitches, of which 33 were strikes.

In the bottom of the second inning, Lehigh Valley second baseman Liover Peguero was hit on the wrist but stayed in the game. Lehigh Valley designated hitter Keaton Anthony worked a four-pitch walk, followed by a lineout from Bryan De La Cruz, who was able to move Peguero to third base. Christian Cairo grounded into a forceout at second base, scoring Peguero, and the IronPigs trailed the Red Wings 5-1. A groundout by Caleb Ricketts ended the inning.

Ryan Cusick was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the third inning. Cusick pitched four innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and four strikeouts, throwing 67 pitches, of which 39 were strikes.

Moving to the bottom of the fifth inning, Caleb Ricketts hit a double to right field with one out. With two outs, Lehigh Valley first baseman Felix Reyes hit Chandler Champlain’s changeup for a two-run home run at 380 feet to left field.

The IronPigs cut the deficit to 5-3. It was his 13th home run of the season, and the exit velocity off the bat was 106.7 mph. Gabriel Rincones Jr. struck out swinging, and the inning was over.

Andrew Bechtold pitched for Lehigh Valley at the top of the seventh inning. He allowed a hit, throwing 17 pitches, of which 10 were strikes, to get three outs.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Christian Cairo hit a single to center field. After a pitching change, Cairo stole second base on a throwing error by pitcher P.J. Poulin, and Cairo went to third base. Caleb Ricketts worked a four-pitch walk with nobody out. Lehigh Valley was unable to bring them home.

Seth Johnson pitched for Lehigh Valley at the top of the eighth inning. Johnson walked one, throwing 15 pitches, of which eight were strikes, to get three outs.

Lou Trivino pitched for Lehigh Valley at the top of the ninth inning. Trivino allowed a hit and struck out one, throwing 23 pitches, of which 14 were strikes.

The IronPigs had no answers for the rest of the game and would go on to lose again to the Red Wings 5-3. Lehigh Valley finished the night with five hits, committed two errors, went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position, and left six men on base. The loss went to Lehigh Valley starter Tucker Davidson (2-3), while the win went to Rochester starter Chandler Champlain (5-1), and Eddy Yean earned his ninth save of the season.

The IronPigs and Red Wings play game three on Thursday at 6:45 pm on the MLB App. Lehigh Valley has yet to name a starter, while Jackson Kent (2-1, 3.43 ERA) will be on the mound for Rochester.
