The Toronto Argonauts released quarterback Max Duggan, running back Elijah Young, defensive lineman Charles Looes, defensive back Peyton Buckley, and kicker Matthew Ammendola on Saturday, according to the CFL Transactions page.

Max Duggan is six foot one and weighs 207 pounds. The 26-year-old from Council Bluffs, Iowa, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on August 27, 2025. In 2025, Duggan completed 13 of 17 passes (76.5%) for 109 yards, one touchdown, and six carries for 46 yards in three games.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Duggan in the seventh round (239th pick) of the 2023 NFL Draft. He signed with the Chargers on May 12, 2023.

In 2023, Duggan completed 6 of 12 passes (50%) for 34 yards, one touchdown, and 10 carries for 71 yards in two preseason games. He spent the majority of the 2023 season on the practice squad. In 2024, Duggan completed 4 of 7 passes (57.1%) for 41 yards and two carries for 15 yards in two preseason games. The Chargers released him on August 19, 2024.

Collegiately, Duggan played four seasons at TCU (2019-22), completing 739 of 1,225 passes (60%) for 9,618 yards, 73 touchdowns, 28 interceptions, 488 carries for 1,856 yards, 28 touchdowns, two catches for one yard, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 47 games for the Horned Frogs.

Duggan led the Horned Frogs to the CFP National Championship Game against Georgia in 2023. In that game, he completed 14 of 22 passes (63.6%) for 152 yards, two interceptions, 10 carries for -38 yards, and one touchdown. In 2022, Duggan was named First Team All-Big XII, Second Team All-American, Big XII Athlete of the Year, Big XII Offensive Player of the Year, and the winner of the Davey O’Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Bob Bowlsby Award, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

Elijah Young is five foot ten and weighs 198 pounds. The 24-year-old from Knoxville, Tennessee, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 20, 2026.

Young signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2025. In 2025, he had four carries for 15 yards in two preseason games. The Chiefs released him on August 18, 2025. The Buffalo Bills signed Young on August 20, 2025. Young had 16 carries for 63 yards in one preseason game. The Bills released him on August 24, 2025.

Collegiately, Young spent three seasons at Missouri (2020-22) with 66 carries for 333 yards, one rushing touchdown, 19 catches for 103 yards, one touchdown, and six kick returns for 112 yards in 28 games for the Tigers.

Then, he transferred to Western Kentucky (2023-24) with 305 carries for 1,357 yards, six rushing touchdowns, 67 catches for 631 yards, five touchdowns, eight kick returns for 128 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 27 games for the Hilltoppers. In 2024, he was named Second Team All-CUSA by Phil Steele after finishing the season with a career-high 201 carries for 883 yards, three rushing touchdowns, 47 catches for 384 yards, and two touchdowns in 14 games.

Charlie Looes is six foot three and weighs 283 pounds. The 24-year-old from Hillsdale, New Jersey, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on January 12, 2026.

The Edmonton Elks signed on May 23, 2025. In 2025, Looes made one tackle in one preseason game. The Elks released him on June 1, 2025.

Collegiately, Looes started his collegiate career at Dartmouth University (2021-23) with 92 tackles (44 solos, 48 assists), 15 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 30 games for the Big Green.

In 2023, Looes was named First Team All-Ivy League, Division I All-New England Team, a Bushnell Cup Finalist, and a winner of the Gold Helmet Award after finishing the season with a career-high 43 tackles (19 solos, 24 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick in 10 games.

Then, he transferred to Rice University in 2024, tying his record with 43 tackles (19 solos, 24 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 12 games for the Owls.

Peyton Buckley is six foot one and weighs 207 pounds. A native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Buckley attended the Washington Commanders rookie minicamp in 2025. The Toronto Argonauts signed Buckley on February 2, 2026.

Collegiately, Buckley spent four seasons at Augustana University (2021-24) with 281 tackles (201 solos, 80 assists), 22 tackles for loss, three sacks, 12 interceptions for 257 yards, two touchdowns, 43 pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, three punt returns for two yards, and 24 receiving yards in 48 games for the Vikings.

In 2024, he had a career-high 84 tackles (59 solos, 25 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception for 39 yards, and 10 pass breakups in 12 games. He was named a three-time First Team All-NSIC, NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 2021, NSIC Defensive Player of the Year in 2024, First Team All-American by CSC Academic and the Associated Press in 2023, and Second Team All-American by AFCA and D2CCA in 2023.

Matthew Ammendola is five foot nine and weighs 195 pounds. The 29-year-old from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 6, 2026.

The Carolina Panthers signed Ammendola on March 24, 2021. He also spent time with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, and the Green Bay Packers. He made 24 of 35 field goals (68.6%) with a long of 49 yards, making 29 of 33 extra points (87.9%), 85 kickoffs for 5,186 yards, 55 touchbacks, six punts for 291 yards (48.5 AVG), and one tackle (1 solo) in 20 career games.

Ammendola signed with the San Antonio Brahmas on January 19, 2024. He attended training camp and was released on March 10, 2024.

Collegiately, Ammendola spent four seasons at Oklahoma State University (2016-19) with 192 kickoffs for 11,795 yards (61.4 AVG), making 60 of 78 field goals (76.9%) with a long of 53 yards, and five tackles (4 solos, 1 assist) in 52 games for the Cowboys. He was named a four-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2019. He finished his career ranked third among all active players in the FBS with 359 career points scored.
