The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (18-17) played game two on Wednesday night against the Buffalo Bisons (16-19) at Coca-Cola Park. Chuck King was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Austin Voth of Buffalo.
At the top of the first inning, Buffalo had a runner on second base when Jonatan Clase hit an RBI single to right field. Ismael Munguia scored for a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, with one run and runners on first and second base, R.J. Schreck hit an RBI single to center field. Jonatan Clase scored for a 2-0 lead. Chuck King struck out Rafael Lantigua and Josh Rivera to end the inning.
At the top of the second inning, Buffalo had runners on second and third base when Ismael Munguia grounded into a forceout at shortstop. A throwing error by shortstop Sergio Alcantara allowed Carlos Mendoza to score for a 3-0 lead. Three batters later, with two outs, Charles McAdoo hit an RBI double to center field. Ismael Munguia scored for a 4-0 lead.
R.J. Schreck followed up by hitting a two-run double to right field. Josh Kasevich and Charles McAdoo scored for a 6-0 lead. Former IronPig Rafael Lantigua struck out swinging, and the inning was over. Chuck King pitched two innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, two walks, and three strikeouts, throwing 58 pitches, of which 32 were strikes.
In the bottom of the second inning, rain began to fall during Lehigh Valley’s at-bat. The game was delayed by an hour and 20 minutes due to rain. With two outs, Cade Fergus struck out swinging, and the inning was over.
Michael Mercado was the new pitcher for Lehigh Valley at the top of the third inning. Mercado pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and one strikeout, throwing 46 pitches, of which 23 were strikes. After Mercado loaded the bases, Daniel Harper replaced him. With two outs, Harper got Carlos Mendoza to ground out to first base, and the inning was over.
At the top of the fifth inning, Buffalo had the bases loaded when R.J. Schreck hit a two-run RBI double to right field. William Simoniet and Josh Kasevich scored for an 8-0 lead. After reloading the bases, Josh Rivera hit the ball off the arm of Harper. Harper made a throwing error, allowing two runs to score for a 10-0 lead. Harper left the game, and Genesis Cabrera replaced him. A groundout by Carlos Mendoza ended the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lehigh Valley had the bases loaded when catcher Paul McIntosh worked a four-pitch walk, scoring Otto Kemp. The IronPigs trailed the Bisons 10-1. With two outs, a groundout by Cade Fergus ended the inning.
Genesis Cabrera pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one walk and one strikeout, throwing 26 pitches, of which 13 were strikes. Seth Johnson pitched for Lehigh Valley at the top of the eighth inning. He allowed one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts, throwing 21 pitches, of which 15 were strikes.
Position player Cade Fergus pitched at the top of the ninth inning. Buffalo had a runner on first base when Rafael Lantigua hit an RBI double to center field. R.J. Schreck scored for an 11-1 lead. With two outs, a flyout by Josh Rivera ended the inning. Fergus allowed two hits and one run, throwing nine pitches, of which five were strikes.
Lehigh Valley would go on to lose to the Bisons by the final score of 11-1. They finished the night with seven hits, committed four errors, went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position, and left 10 men on base. The loss went to Lehigh Valley Chuck King (1-1), and the win went to Buffalo pitcher Michael Plassmeyer (3-0).
The IronPigs and Bisons play game three on Thursday at 6:45 pm on the MLB App. Neither team has named a starter for Thursday night.
