Former Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts wide receiver DaVaris Daniels announced his retirement on Tuesday via his Instagram account.
DaVaris Daniels is six foot one and weighs 203 pounds. The 33-year-old from Vernon Hills, Illinois, made 30 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns for the Argonauts in 2025.
The Minnesota Vikings signed Daniels as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2015. In 2015, he made one catch for six yards in four preseason games. The Vikings released him on August 30, 2015. The New England Patriots acquired him via waivers on September 1, 2015. They released him on September 4, 2015. The Calgary Stampeders signed Daniels on June 19, 2016.
In his first season with Calgary, Daniels made 51 catches for 885 yards, nine touchdowns, and two carries for 34 yards in 11 games. In 2017, he made 47 catches for 743 yards, four touchdowns, and two carries for one yard in 14 games.
In 2018, he played 12 games with 50 catches for 747 yards and seven touchdowns, helping the Stampeders win the 106th Grey Cup over the Ottawa Redblacks. He spent three seasons in Calgary with 148 catches for 2,375 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six carries for 26 yards in 36 games.
In 2019, Daniels played for the Edmonton Eskimos with 54 catches for 738 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. Daniels was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award in 2016 and is a two-time Grey Cup champion.
The Toronto Argonauts signed Daniels on February 11, 2020, but the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2021, he made 51 catches for 597 yards, four touchdowns, one carry for 18 yards, and one kick return for one yard in 13 games. The following year, he made 61 catches for 860 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games, helping the Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 109th Grey Cup.
In 2023, he made 52 catches for 1,009 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games. The Argonauts re-signed Daniels on January 15, 2024. In 2024, Daniels made 48 catches for 622 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games, helping the Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 111th Grey Cup.
Collegiately, Daniels played three seasons at Notre Dame (2011-13) with 80 catches for 1,235 yards and seven touchdowns in 24 games for the Fighting Irish.
