Saskatchewan Roughriders select Mapalo Mwansa and Kansei Matsuzawa in the CFL Global Draft

The Saskatchewan Roughriders selected linebacker Mapalo Mwansa and kicker Kansei Matsuzawa in the 2026 CFL Global Draft on Wednesday.

Mapalo Mwansa is six foot two and weighs 230 pounds. The 22-year-old from Peterborough, England, was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the first round (9th pick) of the 2026 CFL Global Draft.

Mwansa played on the Great Britain National Team in 2024 and played for the Nottingham Caesars of the BAFA National Leagues Northern Premiership. He helped the Caesars win the 2024 Division 1 National Final at Britbowl XXXVI. He joined the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program and signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2025. He suited up in three preseason games and spent the season on the practice squad.

Kansei Matsuzawa is six foot one and weighs 205 pounds. The 27-year-old from Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan, was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the second round (18th pick) of the 2026 CFL Global Draft. Matsuzawa signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent on April 25, 2026.

Collegiately, Matsuzawa spent three seasons at Hawkings College (2021-23), making 12 of 17 field goals (71%), with a long of 50 yards, and making 16 of 17 extra points (94%) in 16 games for the Hawks.

Then, he transferred to Hawaii (2024-25) with 45 kickoffs for 2,780 yards (61.8 AVG), 15 touchbacks, made 39 of 45 field goals (86.7%), with a long of 52 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 25 games for the Rainbow Warriors. He became the first player in Hawaii history to be named a Consensus All-American, along with the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year, and First-Team All-Mountain West in 2025 after finishing the season with 45 kickoffs for 2,780 yards (61.8 AVG), 15 touchbacks, making 27 of 29 field goals (93.1%) with a long of 52 yards, and one tackle (1 solo) in 13 games.
