The Orlando Storm (3-0) visited a rainy Lynn Family Stadium on Friday night against the Louisville Kings (0-3) in a rematch from last week. In their first meeting, the Storm won 19-9. This time, the game was competitive, and it took overtime to decide it.
In the first quarter, Orlando kicker Michael Lantz missed a 28-yard field goal. Late in the first quarter, Louisville kicker Tanner Brown made a 51-yard field goal to give the Kings a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Orlando went on a seven-play drive for 60 yards that ended when quarterback Jack Plummer tossed the ball to Chris Rowland for a three-yard touchdown to put the Storm ahead 7-3. For the rest of the second quarter, Louisville kicker Tanner Brown made a 27-yard field goal, and Orlando kicker Michael Lantz made a 44-yard field goal. The Storm led the Kings 10-6 at halftime.
The game picked up in the second half. In the third quarter, Louisville went on a three-play drive for 60 yards that ended with quarterback Jason Bean throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Zach Davidson to give the Kings a 13-10 lead. Orlando responded by going on an eight-play drive for 61 yards when Jack Plummer threw a short pass to Jashaun Corbin for a 20-yard touchdown. The Storm took a 17-13 lead.
Late in the third quarter, Louisville Kings quarterback Jason Bean threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Lucky Jackson to conclude a seven-play drive for 56 yards. The Kings led 20-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Orlando quarterback Jack Plummer threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hamler for a 27-20 lead that concluded a three-play drive for 52 yards. Late in the fourth quarter, Louisville quarterback Jason Bean threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Zach Davidson to conclude a 12-play drive for 66 yards. The game went to overtime tied 27-27.
In overtime, neither team could get into the endzone. However, Louisville’s defense committed two penalties, and by rule, the Storm were awarded two points and came away with a 29-27 win over the Kings.
Orlando’s offense had 301 yards (250 passing yards, 73 rushing yards), 18 first downs, and the team was penalized five times. Quarterback Jack Plummer completed 21 of 34 passes (61.8%) for 250 yards, three touchdowns, and four carries for 17 yards. Running back Tre Stewart had eight carries for 35 yards.
Wide receiver Chris Rowland had nine catches for 113 yards and one touchdown, while K.J. Hamler made three catches for 74 yards and one touchdown, and Jashaun Corbin made four catches for 21 yards and one touchdown. The defense made 49 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and seven pass breakups.
Louisville’s offense had 438 yards (386 passing yards, 63 rushing yards), 22 first downs, and the team was penalized nine times. Quarterback Jason Bean completed 23 of 46 passes (50%) for 352 yards, three touchdowns, and three carries for 14 yards. Running back Benny Snell had 12 carries for 50 yards and two catches for 19 yards.
Wide receiver Isaiah Winstead made seven catches for 114 yards, Zach Davidson made four catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns, and Lucky Jackson made six catches for 78 yards and one touchdown. The defense made 52 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and three pass breakups.
Next Thursday, the Louisville Kings visit the Houston Gamblers at 8 pm on NFL Network, while the Orlando Storm visit the Birmingham Stallions next Saturday at 4 pm on Fox.
