The Repco Supercars Championship visited Taupō International Motorsport Park in Taupō, New Zealand, for Races 8 and 9 of the ITM Taupō Super 440. Due to Cyclone Vaianu, Sunday’s events were cancelled. Race 10 will be rescheduled next week at Ruapuna Raceway.
In Race 8, Brodie Kostecki started the race on the pole, with Broc Feeney starting second. Brodie Kostecki dominated the race from the start. He held off both Broc Feeney and Matthew Payne to start the race. Kostecki led the opening 21 laps before losing the lead to Anton De Pasquale and falling to third place behind David Reynolds, who both did not pit. He had to hold off Will Brown for a bit before getting the lead back once Pasquale and Reynolds made pit stops.
Kostecki did not have any challengers as he pulled away and went on to win the race by 16.1 seconds over Will Brown. Ryan Wood, Broc Feeney, and Matthew Payne rounded out the top five. James Golding, Chaz Mostert, Anton De Pasquale, Jack Le Brocq, and David Reynolds completed the top ten.
In Race 9, Ryan Wood started the race on the pole, with Will Brown starting second. Ryan Wood dominated the race from the start, clearing Will Brown in the first corner to keep the lead. Will Brown challenged Wood several times for the lead, but Wood held on. Wood lost the lead twice due to stopping on pit road.
On lap 43, he made his final pit stop. Chaz Mostert passed Wood for the lead. With eight laps to go, Wood passed Mostert for the lead. Mostert would lose second place to Broc Feeney a short time later. Wood would go on to win the race by over three seconds over Feeney. Chaz Mostert, Will Brown, and Matthew Payne rounded out the top five. Brodie Kostecki, James Golding, Kai Allen, Cam Waters, and Anton De Pasquale completed the top ten.
The Repco Supercars Championship will visit Ruapuna Raceway next weekend for the ITM Christchurch Super 440.
