The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Justin ‘J.J.’ Weaver on Monday.
Justin ‘J.J.’ Weaver is six foot five and weighs 241 pounds. The 26-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on July 26, 2025. In 2025, he made three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Panthers released him on August 25, 2025.
Collegiately, Weaver spent six seasons at Kentucky (2019-24) with 197 tackles (124 solos, 73 assists), 39.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, two interceptions for 21 yards, eight pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries in 58 games for the Wildcats.
In 2022, he had a career-high 47 tackles (27 solos, 20 assists), six tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 11 games. In his final collegiate season, Weaver made 32 tackles (17 solos, 15 assists), 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 10 games.
Weaver was named one of the 11 FBS Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year in 2024. He also earned the Freddie Solomon Community Spirit Award and the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2024 Ron Butler Character in Adversity Award.
Weaver’s community efforts include working with the homeless, supporting school programs such as backpacks and bike drives, and providing haircuts for children before they return to school. After losing his father and beloved teacher, Weaver launched a program to help young people navigate and process their grief.
