The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made several coaching changes for the 2026 season on Monday by naming Tommy Condell the new offensive coordinator. In addition, Jake Thomas will transition from player to become the team’s new defensive line coach, and Jason Hogan will return to be the team’s running backs coach.
Tommy Condell to 54 years old and is from Utica, New York. He spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Ottawa Redblacks. The Redblacks hired him on December 4, 2023. In 2025, Ottawa’s offense averaged 22.1 points per game, 338.5 net offense per game, 269.3 passing yards per game, 93.6 rushing yards per game, 41 touchdowns, and allowed 47 sacks, finishing 4-14 for the season.
Condell got his coaching career started in 1995 as the running backs coach for the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. In 1996, he was the running back/linebackers coach for the Albany Firebirds (AFL) and the wide receivers coach for the Hamilton Continentals.
Condell would also coach for the McNeese State Cowboys, Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, Louisiana-Monroe Indians, Southeastern Louisiana Lions, and the Cornell Big Red.
Condell made his CFL coaching debut in 1997 as the special teams coordinator for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2004, he was the quarterbacks coach for the Ottawa Renegades.
During his time in Ottawa, Condell was the quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, and passing game coordinator until 2005 before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2006.
Condell returned to the CFL in 2013 as the Ticats’ offensive coordinator and quarterback coach until 2015. Condell replaces Khari Jones, who was fired by the Redblacks on November 3, 2023.
In 2017, Condell was the wide receivers coach for the Toronto Argonauts, winning the 105th Grey Cup over the Calgary Stampeders. In addition to being a wide receivers coach, Condell was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018, but Toronto’s offense struggled to a 4-14 record and was let go.
He would later be named the offensive coordinator for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2019. During his time in Hamilton, Condell helped the Ticats reach the Grey Cup twice in 2019 and 2021. In his first season as the Ticats’ offensive coordinator, Hamilton finished with a 15-3 record and 8-6 in 2021. Condell parted ways with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on August 7, 2023.
Jake Thomas is six foot two and weighs 274 pounds. The 35-year-old from Douglas, New Brunswick, re-signed with the Blue Bombers on January 16, 2025. In 2025, he made nine tackles in 18 games.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers drafted Thomas in the fourth round (29th pick) in the 2012 CFL Draft. In 2023, Thomas made 17 tackles and five sacks in 18 games. In 2024, he made 23 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble in 18 games, helping them reach their fifth consecutive Grey Cup appearance.
Thomas helped the Blue Bombers win two Grey Cup championships in 2019 and 2021. In 13 seasons in Winnipeg, Thomas has made 196 tackles, four tackles on special teams, 33 sacks, one interception, and five forced fumbles in 223 games.
Collegiately, Thomas played four seasons at Acadia University (2008-11) with 138 tackles (85 solos, 53 assists), 33 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one pass breakup in 32 games for the Axemen.
Jason Hogan is from Rosemere, Quebec. He spent three seasons as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back coach from 2022 to 2024. He was promoted to the team’s offensive coordinator role in 2025. Hogan helped running back Brady Oliveira rush for 1,000 yards three times, winning the rushing title in 2023 and 2024, was named a two-time CFL Most Outstanding Canadian, and was named the CFL Most Outstanding Player in 2024.
Hogan was previously with the Montreal Alouettes as an offensive quality control coach and then served as a defensive assistant and receivers coach. He also spent time at the University of Montreal for four years as a quarterbacks coach, assistant offensive coordinator, running backs coach, and wide receiver coach.
Hogan was also an offensive coordinator for École secondaire Curé-Antoine-Labelle Loups and at College André-Grasset. He was also a member of the University of Laval Rouge et Or’s Vanier Cup championship in 2006.
