The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed linebacker Jaylen Smith from the 2025 CFL Draft, punter James Evans from the 2025 CFL Global Draft, wide receiver Scotty Brown, offensive lineman Michael Todd Jr., and kicker Andrew Mevis on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.
Jaylen Smith is six foot and weighs 230 pounds. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Smith was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round (15th pick) of the 2025 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at North Texas (2021-24) making 160 tackles (75 solos, 85 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, two interceptions for six yards, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 52 games for the Mean Green. He was named Third Team All-AAC and DCTF Second Team All-Texas in 2024.
James Evans is six foot one and weighs 217 pounds. The 23-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand, punted the ball 36 times for 1,528 yards (42.4 AVG), with a long of 58 yards, 12 fair catches, 11 from inside the 20-yard line, eight from 50-plus yards, and one carry for -23 yards in 13 games for the Indiana Hoosiers in 2024.
Collegiately, Evans played four seasons at Indiana (2021-24) punting the ball 246 times for 10,771 yards (43.8 AVG), with a long of 73 yards, 12 touchbacks, 66 fair catches, 74 from inside the 20-yard line, 69 from 50-plus yards, and one carry for -23 yards in 50 games for the Hoosiers. He was named a two-time All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and Third Team All-Big Ten in 2023.
He played rugby and squash in high school and was trained under Nathan Chapman and John Smith at Prokick Australia, a training ground for punters and kickers in Melbourne.
Scotty Brown is five foot eleven and weighs 185 pounds. A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Brown made 48 catches for 520 yards, eight touchdowns, two carries for 17 yards, completed 1 of 2 passes (50%) for 17 yards, 16 kick returns for 338 yards, 12 punt returns for 90 yards, two tackles (2 solos), and one blocked kick in 11 games for the Centre College Colonels.
Collegiately, Brown played four seasons at Centre College (2021-24) making 109 catches for 1,143 yards, 18 touchdowns, 15 carries for 44 yards, two touchdowns, completed 2 of 4 passes (50%) for 15 yards, 35 kick returns for 676 yards, 34 punt returns for 300 yards, 11 tackles (6 solos, 5 assists), and three blocked kicks in 36 games for the Colonels.
Michael Todd Jr. is six foot six and weighs 295 pounds. The 22-year-old from Lumberton, North Carolina, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Collegiately, Todd Jr. played four seasons at Fayetteville State University (2021-24) playing 34 games for the Broncos. In 2024, Fayetteville State averaged 24.78 points per game, 104.2 rushing yards per game, 226.44 passing yards per game, 330.7 total yards per game, 28 touchdowns, and allowed 18 sacks finishing 4-5 for the season.
He was named First Team All-CIAA, and a three-time All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. He helped Fayetteville State win the conference championship in 2022.
Andrew Mevis is five foot eleven and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Warsaw, Indiana, re-signed with the Green Bay Blizzard on January 30, 2025. In 2025, Mevis made 9 of 11 field goals (81.8%), with a long of 44 yards, made 30 of 34 extra points (88%), one punt for 44 yards, kickoffs for 2,067 yards (45.9 AVG), two touchbacks, and one tackle (1 solo) in six games.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Mevis as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He was released on July 29, 2022. The St. Louis Battlehawks signed Mevis on January 29, 2024. He attended training camp and was released on March 20, 2024.
Next, Mevis signed with the Green Bay Blizzard on April 18, 2024. In 2024, he made 10 of 16 field goals (62.5) with a long of 47 yards, 27 extra points, 47 kickoffs for 2,329 yards (49.6 AVG), six touchbacks, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in six games.
Collegiately, Mevis played three seasons at Fordham University (2017-19) converted 27 of 38 field goals (71.05%) with a long of 54 yards, 139 kickoffs for 8,614 yards, 82 touchbacks, one kick out of bounds, punted the ball 216 times for 8,593 yards, with a long of 70 yards, 10 touchbacks, 79 fair catches, 72 from inside the 20-yard line, and 31 punts for 50-plus yards in 34 games for the Rams. He was named First Team All-Patriot League as a placekicker in 2019.
Then, Mevis transferred to Iowa State in 2021 converting 20 of 23 field goals (87%) with a long of 54 yards, 79 kickoffs for 4,953 yards, 55 touchbacks, punted the ball 25 times for 1,016 yards, nine fair catches, five from inside the 20-yard line, four from 50-plus yards, and one carry for 29 yards in 13 games for the Cyclones. He was named Third Team All-Big 12 by Phil Steele.
