Ottawa Redblacks sign DB Kenyon Reed, two others to practice squad

The Ottawa Redblacks signed wide receiver Latreal Jones, linebacker Jonathan Jones, and defensive back Kenyon Reed to the practice squad on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page. They also signed defensive lineman Jelani Stafford to a future contract.

Latreal Jones is six foot one and weighs 195 pounds. The 26-year-old from Taylorsville, Mississippi, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 19, 2024. In 2025, he made seven catches for 47 yards in two preseason games.

He spent the season on the practice squad. The Redblacks released him on September 10, 2025. Ottawa re-signed Jones to the practice squad on September 16, 2025. The Redblacks would release him again on October 2, 2025.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Jones as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. In 2024, Jones was targeted twice and made no catches. The Buccaneers released him on August 27, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Jones on December 9, 2024.

Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Pearl River City Community College (2019-21), making 66 catches for 874 yards, four touchdowns, 21 kick returns for 442 yards, and two tackles (2 solos) in 23 games for the Wildcats.

Then, Jones transferred to Southern Mississippi University (2022-23), making 16 catches for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in 15 games for the Golden Eagles. In 2023, Jones made nine catches for 116 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble recovery in six games.

Jonathan Jones is five foot eleven and weighs 230 pounds. The 27-year-old from Ocoee, Florida, signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on January 30, 2025. In 2025, he made two tackles on special teams in three games. The Blue Bombers released him on September 29, 2025.

The Toronto Argonauts signed Jones as a free agent on June 25, 2022. In 2022, Jones made ten tackles, five tackles on special teams, one sack, and two interceptions in six games for the Argonauts, helping them win the Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2023, he made 49 tackles, 13 tackles on special teams, seven sacks, and one interception in 18 games.

In 2024, Jones made 29 tackles, eight tackles on special teams, and one forced fumble in 12 games, helping the Argonauts win the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It was Toronto’s second championship in three seasons. The Argonauts released him on January 16, 2025.

Collegiately, Jones played three seasons at Notre Dame (2017-19) with 16 tackles (9 solos, 7 assists) and two tackles for loss in 35 games for the Fighting Irish.

Then, he transferred to Toledo (2020-21) with 116 tackles (34 solos, 82 assists), 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 19 games for the Rockets. He was named Second Team All-MAC in 2021.

Kenyon Reed is six foot and weighs 180 pounds. The 24-year-old from Sacramento, California, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on February 28, 2025. In 2025, Reed made three tackles and one tackle on special teams in two preseason games. The Redblacks released him on May 31, 2025.

The Calgary Stampeders signed Reed on May 1, 2024. He played two preseason games with one tackle and earned a spot on the practice squad.

He was promoted to the active roster on August 3, 2024. Reed played three games with 10 tackles and one sack before returning to the practice squad on September 1, 2024. The Stampeders released him on September 5, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Reed on December 23, 2024.

Collegiately, Reed was a redshirt freshman at Kansas State in 2019 before transferring to San Jose State University (2020-23) with 105 tackles (79 solos, 26 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions for 58 yards, one touchdown, four kick returns for 27 yards, and 12 punt returns for 95 yards in 37 games for the Spartans.

Jelani Stafford is six foot one and weighs 300 pounds. A native of Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Stafford played two seasons at Youngstown State (2020-21) with 14 tackles (10 solos, 4 assists), two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two carries for one yard in 16 games for the Penguins.

Then, he transferred to the University of Connecticut (2022-24) with 107 tackles (53 solos, 54 assists), 16.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, 15 carries for 22 yards, six rushing touchdowns, and one catch for 12 yards in 38 games for the Huskies. He was named to the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 Watch List.
