Report: Ottawa Redblacks to sign quarterback Matthew Shiltz

The Ottawa Redblacks are set to sign quarterback Matthew Shiltz once free agency starts next Tuesday according to The Canadian Press writer Dan Ralph.

Matthew Shiltz is six foot two and weighs 205 pounds. The 32-year-old from St. Charles, Illinois, signed with the Calgary Stampeders on February 13, 2024. In 2024, he completed 34 of 62 passes (54.8%) for 438 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 14 carries for 133 yards, and one touchdown in 10 games.

Matthew Shiltz went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed with the Montreal Alouettes on April 4, 2017. Shiltz spent four seasons in Montreal completing 145 of 237 passes (61.2%) for 1,866 yards, eight touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 50 carries for 313 yards, and two touchdowns in 50 games for the Alouettes.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Shiltz as a free agent on February 6, 2022. In 2022, he completed 85 of 119 passes (71.4%) for 935 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, 28 carries for 152 yards, and one touchdown in 17 games for the Ticats. In 2023, he completed 108 of 161 passes (67.1%) for 1,556 yards, seven touchdowns, five interceptions, 23 carries for 160 yards, and one touchdown in 11 games.

Collegiately, Shiltz played four seasons at Butler University (2012-15) completing 324 of 552 passes (58.6%) for 4,042 yards, 29 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 175 carries for 862 yards, two touchdowns, and made four catches for 32 yards in 29 games for the Bulldogs.

In 2015, Shiltz was named 2015 First Team Academic All-PFL, 2015 PFL Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, and 2015 All-PFL Second Team. He completed 218 of 381 passes (57.2%) for 2,713 yards, 19 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 126 carries for 639 yards, ten touchdowns, three catches for 36 yards, and two touchdowns in 11 games in his final season.
