Ottawa Redblacks sign two players including OL Eric Miller, release one

The Ottawa Redblacks signed offensive lineman Eric Miller and defensive lineman Deshawn Holt, and released defensive lineman Deionte Knight on Wednesday.

Eric Miller is six foot eight and weighs 311 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mason, Ohio, signed with the Edmonton Elks on September 14, 2024. He spent a month on the practice squad before they released him on October 13, 2024.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed Miller as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024. He was released by the Bengals on August 23, 2024. The Edmonton Elks signed Miller on September 14, 2024, and spent a month on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Miller played four seasons at Purdue University (2019-22) playing left tackle and right tackle in 56 games for the Boilermakers. In 2022, he helped Purdue’s offense lead the Big Ten in passing with 276 yards per game, and helped running back Devin Mockobee break the Purdue freshman rushing record with 968 yards on the ground.

Then, Miller transferred to Louisville in 2023 starting 14 games for the Cardinals allowing two sacks, and 24 quarterback hurries over 920 blocking snaps. He was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention after the season.

Deshawn Holt is six foot five and weighs 245 pounds. The 23-year-old from Waldorf, Maryland, went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Collegiately, Holt played three seasons at Maryland (2019-21) making 25 tackles (20 solos, 5 assists), four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup in 15 games for the Terrapins.

Then, he transferred to Toledo (2022-24) making 91 tackles (33 solos, 58 assists), 18 tackles for loss, six sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 37 games for the Rockets. In 2024, he made 50 tackles (21 solos, 29 assists), nine tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 13 games.

Deionte Knight is six foot three and weighs 290 pounds. The 26-year-old from Ajax, Ontario, signed with the Ottawa Redblacks on December 17, 2024.

The Toronto Argonauts drafted Knight in the second round (10th pick) of the 2022 CFL Draft. He played four games in his rookie season making two tackles as the Argonauts won the 109th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In 2023, Knight made 17 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 games. In the 2024 preseason, Knight made one tackle against the Montreal Alouettes. In 2024, Knight played two games recording no stats. The Argonauts released him on July 3, 2024.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Knight on July 3, 2024. He made four tackles in 12 games for the Ticats. The Ticats released him on October 26, 2024. The Ottawa Redblacks signed Knight on December 6, 2024.

Collegiately, Knight played four seasons at Western University (2018-21) making 96 tackles (34 solos, 62 assists), 17 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 28 games for the Mustangs.

In 2021, Knight made 52 tackles (17 solos, 35 assists), 13 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one pass breakup, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in 11 games helping the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup. He won the J. P. Metras Trophy after the season.
