Ottawa Redblacks and wide receiver Tevaun Smith agree to a contract extension

The Ottawa Redblacks and wide receiver Tevaun Smith agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season on Thursday. The 30-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, made 14 catches for 142 yards, and two touchdowns in eight games for the Redblacks in 2022.

This will be Smith’s second season in Ottawa. He signed with the Redblacks as a free agent in 2022. Smith previously spent two seasons with the Edmonton Elks with 82 catches for 956 yards, six touchdowns, and three kick returns for 56 yards in 30 games.

The Elks (then Eskimos) drafted Smith in the first round (8th pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft. He caught 55 passes for 632 yards, six touchdowns, and three kick returns for 56 yards in 17 games in his rookie year.

Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Iowa (2012-15) with 102 catches for 1,500 yards, seven touchdowns, and three carries for 43 yards in 47 games for the Hawkeyes.
