The Toronto Argonauts re-signed punter John Haggerty on Friday.
John Haggerty is six foot five and weighs 225 pounds. The 30-year-old from Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, punted the ball 91 times for 4,573 yards (50.3 AVG) with a long of 88 yards in 18 games when the Argonauts won the 111th Grey Cup over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He had the second-best punting average and was named a CFL East All-Star.
The Toronto Argonauts drafted Haggerty in the first round (4th pick) of the 2022 CFL Global Draft. In 2022, he punted the ball 107 times for 5,155 yards (48.2 AVG) with a long of 83 yards in 17 games when the Argonauts beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 109th Grey Cup. He was named a CFL East All-Star. In 2023, he punted the ball 62 times for 2,975 yards (48.0 AVG) with a long of 66 yards in 12 games.
Collegiately, Haggerty played three seasons at Western Kentucky (2019-21) punting the ball 134 times for 6,232 yards (46.5 AVG) with a long of 68 yards, seven touchbacks, 32 fair catches, 48 from inside the 20-yard line, 53 from 50-plus yards, and one carry for three yards in 39 games for the Hilltoppers.
He was First Team All-CUSA in 2019, Second Team All-CUSA in 2020, First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA, and was named the 2021 RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl Special Teams MVP.
