Lehigh Valley Phantoms take Game 1 of the Calder Cup Playoffs

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (1-0) visited the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Wednesday for Game 1 of the Calder Cup Playoffs against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (0-1) in a best-of-three-series.

At 14:37 of the first period, Adam Brooks (1) scored for the Phantoms making it 1-0 with assists by Adam Ginning (1), and Louie Belpedio (1). The Phantoms led 1-0 after one period of play.

Fifty-eight seconds into the second period, Rhett Gardner (1) extended the Phantoms lead to 2-0 with assists by Louie Belpedio (2), and Cooper Marody (1). At 18:16, Wilke-Barre/Scranton’s Ville Koivunen (1) scored cutting Lehigh Valley’s lead down to 2-1 with an assist by Sam Poulin (1).

In the third period, the Phantoms came close to adding two more goals but were unsuccessful. However, the Phantoms held on to defeat the Penguins 2-1 to take a 1-0 series lead. The Phantoms finished the night with 32 shots on goal, went 0 for 3 on the power play, and Cal Peterson made 21 of 22 saves.
