Houston gets their first win of the season over Arlington

The Houston Roughnecks (1-3) concluded Week 4 of the UFL season on Sunday afternoon hosting the Arlington Renegades (0-4) in a battle of two winless teams.

A strip sack by Chris Odom recovered by Gabriel Sewell Jr. sealed the win for the Roughnecks in a 17-9 win over the Renegades. The Roughnecks are now tied for third place with the Memphis Showboats in the USFL Conference while Arlington remains the UFL’s last winless team.

Houston had 253 yards on offense. Quarterback Reid Sinnett completed 18 of 28 passes (64%) for 191 yards, one touchdown, and three carries for nine yards. Sinnett’s lone touchdown of the game came in the second quarter to Emmanuel Butler for three yards plus a successful two-point conversion made it 11-3 with 3:38 left before halftime.

Running back Mark Thompson led the rushers with nine carries for 34 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for five yards. Thompson’s touchdown happened in the third quarter for 10 yards which made it 17-3 with 8:23 left. Houston’s rushers finished the afternoon with 23 carries for 76 yards, and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Justin Hall led the receivers with four catches for 35 yards, while Keke Chism made four catches for 30 yards. The receivers finished the game with 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker J.J. Molson made one field goal for 25 yards. Houston’s defense made 65 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Arlington had 193 yards on offense. Quarterback Luis Perez completed 15 of 28 passes (54%) for 144 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Perez’s touchdown happened in the third quarter to Deontay Burnett for seven yards but failed the one-point covert making it 17-9 Houston with 5:04 left. Backup quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. completed one pass for 21 yards, and two carries for five yards.

Running back Leddie Brown led the rushers with 8 carries for 17 yards and four catches for 41 yards. The rushers finished the afternoon with 18 carries for 40 yards. Wide receiver Deontay Burnett led the receivers making four catches for 58 yards, and one touchdown. The receivers finished the day making 16 catches for 165 yards, and one touchdown.

Kicker Jonathan Garibay made one field goal for 31 yards. Arlington’s defense made 62 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
