“I’m pleased to announce our coaching staff for the 2024 season and welcome Paul Boudreau, Glen Young, Brandon Isaac, Michael Fletcher, Naaman Roosevelt, Myer Spitulnik, and their families to the Tiger-Cats organization and the city of Hamilton,” said Milanovich. “This blend of new hires and returning coaches will provide a diverse range of leadership, fresh ideas, strong work ethics, and a great deal of energy.”
“In addition, I wish all the best for Jeff Reinebold, Robin Ross, Randy Melvin, Tim Smith, Rob Payne, Matt Tolliver, and Charlie Taggart and thank them for their contributions to the organization.”
Among the new hires coming to Hamilton is former Winnipeg special teams coordinator Paul Boudreau, who takes the same position for Hamilton. In 2023, Winnipeg finished second in kickoff average (65.9) while Hamilton ranked seventh (62.0), and third in field goal percentage (90.2).
However, Winnipeg was ranked near the bottom of the other categories including seventh in gross punting average (46.2), eighth in net punting (35.2), eighth in average kickoff return yards (20), and sixth in average punt return yardage (11.1).
Before Winnipeg, Boudreau was with the St. Louis Rams and spent 16 years at the collegiate level with Central Connecticut State, Widener, Fitchburg State, Connecticut State, Brown, Cincinnati, and Northeastern. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion and has coached in four consecutive Grey Cups.
Glen Young returns to the CFL after spending time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2016-19) and the Toronto Argonauts (2020-21). Before he went into coaching, Young played 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Toronto Argonauts, and Edmonton Eskimos.
Bobby Isaac spent the last two seasons as a defensive backs coach for the Edmonton Elks. Isaac played eight seasons in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary Stampeders, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. While in Toronto, he was coached by Milanovich.
Michael Fletcher was a defensive analyst at Arizona State University for the last three seasons. As a player, Fletcher played nine seasons in the CFL with the B.C. Lions (2000-01) and Toronto Argonauts (2002-08). He won two Grey Cups during his career and was named a CFL All-Star in 2005.
Naaman Roosevelt was an offensive assistant with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2023. He played 12 seasons combined in the NFL and CFL for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Montreal Alouettes, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2017.
Myer Spitulnik comes to the Ticats after spending the 2023 season as a coach at Hilbert College. In addition, he also spent time as the running backs coach and film coordinator at True North Classical Academy (Miami, Florida). The Miami (FL) University graduate spent four seasons working on its football team’s film and video staff.
Alex Penz spent the 2023 season as the Ticats’ assistant video coordinator. Penz studied sports management at Brock University and has coaching experience with the Guelph Jr. Gryphons, Burlington Stampeders, and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary.
