The Royals were blown out again on Saturday night against the Wheeling Nailers.

The Reading Royals (16-19-3-1) concluded their three-game homestand at the Santander Arena on Saturday night against the Wheeling Nailers (21-16-1-1).

Wheeling dominated the first period with goals by Thimo Nickl, Lukas Svejkovsky, and Dillon Hamaliuk scored for the Nailers for a 3-0 lead. The Royals had 11 shots on goal but trailed 3-0 after one period of play.

Two minutes and twenty seconds into the second period, Reading’s Tyson Fawcett cut Wheeling’s lead down to 3-1 with an assist by Koletrane Wilson. However, Wheeling took over the second period scoring four goals by Justin Lee, Dillon Hamaliuk, Lukas Svejkovsky, and Matt Koopman which made it 7-1. The Royals had ten shots on goal but trailed 7-1 after two periods of play.

Four minutes and twenty-five seconds into the third period, Wheeling’s Matthew Quercia added another goal which made it 8-1. At 17:36, Reading’s Adam Brubacher scored to make it an 8-2 Nailers lead with assists by Devon Paliani and Joseph Nardi. The Royals had eight shots on goal and lost to the Nailers by the final score of 8-2.

The Royals had 29 shots on goal, committed one penalty, went 0 for 3 on the power play, and goaltenders Ryan Kenny made 10 saves off 15 shots, and Nolan Maier made 12 saves off 15 shots.
