On Sunday afternoon, the Reading Royals (39-16-7-2) wrapped up a three-game series against the Trois-Rivieres Lions (29-28-4-1) at the Colisée Vidéotron.
One minute and forty-five seconds into the first period, the Lions took a 1-0 by former Phantom Alexis D’Aoust (16). Alexandre Fortin and Brenden Locke assisted D’Aoust’s goal.
At 11:01 in the second period, Lions forward Jonathan Joannette (6) made it 2-0 with an assist from Cedric Montminy. Then, the Royals cut the Lions lead 2-1 at 15:14 by Brennan Saulnier (2) with assists from Brayden Low and Mike Chen.
Two minutes and one second into the third period, the Lions made it 3-1 by Alexis D’Aoust (17). Hayden Shaw and Brenden Locke assisted the goal. It was D’Aoust’s second goal of the game. Then, the Royals pulled within one 3-2 by Grant Cooper (7) with assists from Dominic Cormier and Frank DiChiara.
At 8:26, Royals defenseman Dominic Cormier (15) tied the game 3-3 with assists from Mason Millman and Jacob Pritchard. The game went to overtime, tied 3-3.
Six minutes and three seconds into overtime, the Lions won the game 4-3 by Julien Nantel (7) with an assist from Hayden Shaw.
The Royals finished the afternoon with 38 shots, 0/8 on the power-play, and Hayden Hawkey made 27 of 31 saves.
